Spring cleaning your home is not only a great exercise to practice, but it is also beneficial to your mental well being. It helps you do the annual decluttering and getting rid of everything you don’t need, along with actually deep cleaning your entire home. 1. Create a clear structure for your spring cleaning
Of course, the task will seem overwhelming to you if you try and do everything at once. The very first thing you need to do for successfully spring cleaning your home is to create a Plan Of Action.
Begin by listing out all of the rooms in your home in the order in which you want to tackle them. You can begin with the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, whichever you like.
Under each room – make another sub-list of each area and item which you want to tackle during your spring cleaning. So you can make a list like this:

In case you cannot do so, it can be a good idea to divide up each room into an area which you will tackle. You can clean the sink and tubs or shower area on one day and then take rest. The next day, you can clean the toilet, mirrors, and glass. Keep ticking off your checklist as you clean – it’ll give you a sense of accomplishment as you keep going through the tasks.
3. Choose the right products for cleaning
You need to choose the right kind of cleaning products for your home. While you can always purchase all sorts of commercial cleaners and products, you can also make a few homemade cleaners on your own – just to be a little more economical and ecofriendly!
One of the best cleaning solutions that you can rely on is simply a mixture of white distilled vinegar and water (add a few drops of essential oil if you wish to, for a better aroma). It works as an excellent multi-surface cleaner, which you can regularly use to simply wipe down all your surfaces. It is easy to make and easy to use.
The commercial cleaning products that you choose for your home are also essential. Make sure you don’t select anything too harsh, give off fumes, or can be dangerous for your home. Read the products and ingredients carefully before buying anything.
4. Allow time to soak
As you try to tick things off your list and finish off your spring cleaning, it can be easy to go a little too fast sometimes. Remember that you need to allow your cleaning products to soak to be really useful. If you apply a cleaning solution to your tub or sink, make sure you allow it to soak for at least 15 to 20 minutes before cleaning the area. During this time, you can move on to a different task, so that you can do things more effectively.
The same goes with absolutely anything that you are cleaning. Be it your clothes, the floor, kitchen items, you need to give your cleaning products enough time to soak and take effect.
5. Create time for yourself every day
You don’t need to dedicate all day, every day, to spring cleaning your home. That can become quite tedious. Make time for yourself when you will tackle these tasks each day. Choosing a time in the morning can be helpful as it will help you get most of the heavy work out of the way. Schedule your time every day and stick to the routine. You will find it much easier to get the jobs over within a timely and effective manner.
6. Let things breathe
One of the best things you can do during your spring cleaning ritual is to allow things to breathe. Try and take your mattress outside and let it breathe in the natural air and sunlight for a few hours. Do the same with your clothes, curtains, etc. The sunlight is excellent in killing bacteria and germs and just letting things air out naturally.
If you cannot take your items out of your home, then simply throw open all of your windows for a few hours in the morning. Let the natural light and air in – it will do wonders to lighten up your home and allow the fresh air to come in.
7. Decluttering is important
Make sure you have 3 different boxes handy when you begin decluttering your rooms.
Box 1 – Donate items (in case the items you wish to donate will not fix in the box, you can create a running list to help you remember).
Box 2 – Mend and repair items
Box 3 – Return items to the rightful place. (It can often happen that you finally find that item you have been looking for for months! Maybe it is a book you thought you lost, a photo frame, an earring, simply put them away into this 3rd box and keep them in their right place after your cleaning is over!)
