Where to eat for free onboard Carnival Vista

I had heard that the food aboard Cruise ships is generally regarded as excellent and the general consensus amongst friends was to take elastic trousers as many had put on a few lbs on weight by the end of their cruise and I can see why.

Nothing prepared us for the sheer amount of food choice aboard the Carnival Vista, however we did do our best to sample as many types of the cuisine offered as possible from both the free and ‘pay extra’ options.

It is worth remembering that some foods are only available on sea days and we managed to miss the BBQ which serves Italian sausage, barbecue chicken breast, and classic pulled pork sandwiches along with other traditional barbecue must haves like baked beans, cole slaw and potato salad but have it on good authority that it was “amazing”.

The Lido Restaurant offers casual dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a huge choice of dishes from the Mongolian Wok, Chef’s Choice, Salad Bar, Carnival Deli, as well as fruit juice for breakfast, tea and coffee, water, iced tea and traditional lemonade throughout the day.

The restaurant has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and food options for everyone. Isaac loved the Hot Dogs from the Carnival Deli and the kids all loved the free frozen yoghurt which is available 24/7. Keep an eye out in the afternoons as they also serve some delicious flavoured ice creams from Sweet Spot too.

At the rear of the Lido restaurant at the back of the ship sits the Pizzeria Del Capitano which is open 24 hours a day making your favourite pizza’s.

In the middle of the ship, also on the Lido deck, are Blue Iguana Cantina which serve the most amazing freshly made tacos and burritos I have ever tasted, stuffed with your choice of filling and Guy’s Burger Joint which was a firm family favourite serving hand-cut fries and burgers with a toppings bar to truly make your burger your own.

There are two dining rooms on the ship and you are allocated one dependant on where your cabin is on the ship and both offer breakfast and a full three course dinner in the evening.

I can only describe the breakfasts as HUGE. They have a large American style breakfast choice and Hubby even had steak one morning whereas I enjoyed a freshly made omelette. The kids stuck to cereal and pastries.

The restaurants have a rotating menu of dishes like steak, roasted duck, scallops and prime rib and my one tip for eating in there is to go early as if you leave it until 8pm they get extremely busy and people queue for tables.

There is also a tasty room service menu if you prefer to stay in your cabin, but with so much offered elsewhere we never used this facility.

  1. It really is so easy to put on weight on a cruise – it’s wise to take your floaty clothes for towards the end of the holiday! But I agree with you on this post – the food was lovely and I thought that the Pizzeria Del Capitano was a real find. Not only was it open 24-7 which pleased my teenager after her nights out, it was great for an early lunch for me at 11am when I’d eaten breakfast at 0600 and was ready for something for lunch! I don’t fancy eating two servings of breakfast so it was great for me too!
