We are Unstoppable now!!

We have had almost a week of having two children down with the dreaded lurgy, which also means we have been stuck indoors which is most unlike us as we like to be out and about, scrunching through leaves, leaping in muddy puddles and finding adventure around every corner.

As I sat snuggled up with Sebby my imagination drifted off to plan our perfect family holiday. Much as we all love a little sunshine, at this time of year I dream of mountains covered in white glistening snow, hot chocolate half way down the piste and of course giggling children as they perfect snow angels or build giant snowmen.

I learned to ski in Calgary just before the winter Olympics in 1988 aged 13 and was hooked. Two weeks of constantly hitting the slopes turned me into a fairly good skier very quickly and I was keen to repeat the performance on a school trip to Austria when I was 15. I still have my gold medal from the slalom race tucked away safely.

Sadly it has been 25 years now since I skied and I long to take the children now they are old enough to hit the slopes, although I do envisage them hurtling down the slopes with no fear at break neck past me as I try to learn the ropes again. There may be some conflict between Hubby and I as he is a boarder and I am pretty sure the teen will follow in his footsteps, however the smaller ones will be with me.

Today, with the family feeling better, we were lucky enough to visit the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead to get a bit of a taster of what a family ski holiday might be like and it has reignited our enthusiasm for a week in the snow.

Our family would definitely be the Crystal Holiday’s Unstoppables Family – Snowstorms of perpetual motion, packing lunches, strapping on boots, and dropping the kids at ski school before fitting in a few short runs myself. With just one day in the snow today I found myself running back to the car to find a stray glove but it was all worth it to see the smiles on their faces!!

The Snow Centre

After 25 years of not having ski’s attached to my feet I was worried I would end up in a heap on the floor, but it all came flooding back and although I wouldn’t attempt the Black Diamond run just yet, I think I would be confident enough to squeeze in a few runs before I had to get back for tobogganing with the kids. I would also be that mum that, once the kids are finally asleep, I’d heroically collapse with a glass of wine, before rapidly falling asleep on the sofa.

The Snow Centre

Today was just a taster, but I am confident that a ski holiday with Crystal would be the perfect family holiday for us as the kids could not only learn a new skill, but they would also have the opportunity to have fun with kids their own age within the childcare facilities, leaving their Dad and I to get some personal skiing time too.

This is my entry into the Crystal Ski Holidays Blogger Ambassador Program.

  1. Looks like you all had a brilliant day. Bet you can’t wait to get something booked now!? I always think that the idea of a skiing family holiday is wonderful but with my two so tiny I fear the hot choc might have to wait a few years…. One day though… One day ;0) #justanotherlinky

  2. That looks like great fun! I wish I’d had the opportunity to learn to ski/snowboard as a youngster. I’ve tried a couple of times as an adult but I’m just to fearful to relax and really give it a go. What a great experience for your kids.

  3. I’m absolutely terrified of skiing, skating and sledging but I do love the beauty of snow. We went to Austria some years ago out of ski season and loved going up and down the ski lifts. It was amazing to look across to the snow tipped peaks.

  4. Sounds like a great event Kara! The ski school is not that far from where I used to live I don’t think – well I was in Berkhamsted but in the same county! Great post and video, you so should have won! Hopefully you’ll get to go skiing in the not too distant future x
