Tuck your worries away with a Worry Eater

About this time last year Isaac developed a fear of the dark and going upstairs on his own at night time. A fear of darkness, particularly being left alone in the dark, is one of the most common fears for children and often develops at the age of 6 or 7, as children develop an understanding about death.

We have tried lots of things to help Isaac, including fitting a nightlight on the wall next to his bed and hanging a dream catcher above is bed, but although that appears to have helped stop the bad dreams, it has not dealt with his fear of the dark.

Worry Eaters are based on Gerd Hahn’s animation, Sorgenfresser. Brilliant for eating nightmares and acting as a ‘waste bin’ for worries of all shapes and sizes, children simply write or draw their troubles on a piece on paper and feed them into the zip mouth of the Worry Eater. Cuddly companions in good times or bad, for children of all ages, parents find the award-winning plushes ideal for keeping channels of communication open with their youngsters whilst also being a fun, vibrant plaything.

Worry Eaters

We were sent Schnulli to review and he was an instant hit with Isaac. Isaac wrote his fears on some paper and fed them into the zip mouth of the Worry Eater. It doesn’t solve all problems straight away, but is the first step and it provided an immediate feeling of relief for him. When the Worry Eater tells us parents about the problems, we can talk to the children about them and I was surprised when Isaac added more than one.

Isaac has had Schnulli for a couple of weeks now and has starting venturing upstairs alone now to go to bed, provided the hall light is on, of course. Schnulli has ousted his favourite cuddly toys out of their normal position in his bed too.

The popular Worry Eaters range is growing in 2016! Not only will six new additions join the plush family but there’s also a brand new collection of stationery and novelty items perfect for primary school-aged boys and girls!

Purses (RRP £5.49), pencil cases (RRP £8.49) and bags (RRP £8.99) are being added to the collection – there are four character purses based on popular Worry Eaters Bill, Betti, Saggo and Om, as well as four pencil cases (Enno, Flint, Frula and Biff) plus Frula and Flamm bags. They’re all portable versions of kids’ favourite Worry Eaters characters, created with the same soft fabric as the plushes and featuring the distinct zip-mouth for gobbling up children’s worries.

The Worry Eaters plush range is growing too – say hello to new characters, Pat, Sita and Lily, who are all Classic Worry Eaters (RRP £20) measuring 32-40cm. Schnulli and Pom join the Junior Worry Eaters, (RRP £12.50) measuring 22-24cm. For bigger worries comes giant Flint, (RRP £200) measuring 97cm! They’re all suitable for 3+.

  1. I’m getting one of these for when the boy is a little older. At 3 he currently has no worries whatsoever, hopefully that will continue 🙂

  2. Aww these are such a lovely idea, my children have a few little wobbles every now and then. I bought them some little worry dolls and I know my daughter used them a couple of times but I like these idea better.
