When we were invited to review some wool bedding I was intrigued. Our current bedding consists of a duck feather duvet that we bought with our wedding money ten years ago, two duck feather pillows and two memory foam pillows that hubby bought from his old work and a basic mattress protector. Our bedding was perfectly serviceable, if I am honest the duck feather pillows had seen better days and the only real issue we had with it was that the feathers in the duvet used to all end up in the bottom half of it – nothing that a good shake wouldn’t fix.
The Wool Room sells luxury wool bedding made from the finest British wool, which is scientifically proven to improve sleep quality. In fact, research suggests wool bedding can help provide up to 25% more stage four regenerative sleep. This means you’ll wake up feeling refreshed, revitalised and ready to face the day – sounded good to me!
The Wool Room natural wool duvets are made from British wool and are naturally hypoallergenic. Wool is nature’s miracle material – soft and durable with a built-in natural climate control, perfect for duvets.
“Sleeping with a wool-filled duvet is like having your own personal air conditioning in bed. You’ll stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter – naturally. This is because wool adapts to your own body temperature whilst you sleep. If you tend to get too hot in bed, you’ll feel cooler. If you never quite feel warm enough, you’ll feel really toasty with wool. Remember – one billion sheep can’t be wrong!”
The first thing that struck me was the beautiful packaging. All the items came in re-useable fabric bags which oozed quality and didn’t give the bedding that odd plasticy smell that you sometimes get.
The mattress protector went on first and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of it. The padded area covers the whole of the mattress and the fitted sheet part is large enough to tuck under the corners and side of the mattress so it won’t move.
The duvet went on next and although not as thick and fluffy as my down duvet (after a shake), the wool is evenly spaced throughout and you can see the attention to detail. I like the fact that you can see the large diamond shapes through the duvet cover. Last but not least were the pillows and here is where I was most surprised. I may sound odd, but nothing beats laying on a cold pillow when you first get into bed. I didn’t like my memory foam pillows as they always felt warm, so I had the goose feather ones and fluffed them up around me when I got into bed. The wool ones have this cold feel and are so comfortable!!
Did we notice a difference?
Yes – I always joke that hubby is like a radiator and always got too hot previously but this bedding really does help regulate the temperature. Hubby normally sweats around the head and neck at night and I have noticed that this has dramatically reduced and, because of its proven natural hypoallergenic properties, I have noticed that I am coughing less at night (I am mildly asthmatic) and my eczema has cleared up which used to wake me in the night as it really itched. The pillows have a zip on them so you adjust the wool inside, taking some away or repositioning to your own taste too.
The Wool Room has a fab page with 5 reasons to buy wool bedding and why it helps you sleep better which is packed full of interesting facts about wool and by buying from them, you are supporting British farmers too!
I am such a fan of my new wool bedding I am going to invest in some more for the kids beds – anything that improves our night’s sleep and helps with allergies is a great buy.
