Stylish Lighting Ideas for Your Home

As you know, if you read this blog regularly, we recently tested a personal wireless lighting kit. To say we were pleased with the results is an understatement. It completely transformed how we light up some of our rooms and gave us so much more control.

Our success with this kit prompted us to look more closely at how we light other areas of our home. It turns out there are lots of ways to transform your home (with the help of Milestone Home Service Co or similar services, if you are not happy doing electrical work yourself) using modern lighting and bulbs, some of which I am going to share with you below.

Use spotlights to add interest

When I came across these LED spotlights from LED Hut, my mind was flooded with new ideas. There are dozens of ways you can use spotlights to improve the look and feel of your home.

For example, you can use them to create an interesting focal point in your living room. If you have a central fireplace with some form of shelving either side you could use spotlights to up-light a pair of stylish ornaments or sculptures. A trick that can turn a family living room that looks fairly ordinary during the day into a classy, chic space in which to relax at night.

Spotlights are great for creating little puddles of light that highlight the features you light and keep those you don´t in the dark. You can also use them to good effect in the garden. Coloured spotlights are fantastic for lighting up an interesting tree or another type of plant.

Use lights to transform a corner of a room

The right type of lighting can transform a dark corner of your home and turn it into a useable space. For example, you simply placing a floor lamp behind a comfortable recliner chair creates a cosy reading nook. Or, maybe somewhere a member of the family could indulge in their favourite hobby without the need to be isolated in another room. You can also use a strategically placed light to help you to turn a corner or the space under your stairs into an office area.

Use lighting to add the wow factor to the outside

I have already mentioned using spotlights to light up interesting plants you have in your garden. But, there are lots of other ways you can use lighting to make your home look more stylish from the outside. Two strategically place lamp post style lights have a surprisingly transformative effect. As does, using spike lights to highlight your path or the edges of your garden, or even a neon bar sign from this website to add a bit of fun to your patio area.

Another idea that works surprisingly well and is not expensive to do is to use fairy lights in your garden. Using modern LEDs ensures that they do not consume a lot of power, especially if you only turn them on at the weekends. You can find out more about using LED fairy lights in a garden from this excellent article.

Now, I am not saying we are going to actually do all of the above lighting projects. They are just some of my favourite ideas that I came across, during my research. However, for sure, next time we decorate a room or revamp our garden changing the lighting will be a key component of the transformation. Getting the lighting right in your home really does make a huge difference, so it really is worth taking the time to update it.
