We are very lucky where we live as we can have beach or forest fun within a 15 minute drive, so if we don’t fancy going further afield there is always something fun to do.
Last year we had great fun on the beach following some violent winter storms as they had whipped the sand up into giant mounds, buried benches and hidden beach huts.
Last week saw some high winds and stormy weather roll in again so we decided to take a trip to the beach to see what damage had been done this time. We parked at Canford Cliffs and played in the Treasure Island Play Park before heading down to the beach.
The kids scooted along the promenade, racing off ahead and then coming back, before heading down to the Branksome Chine beach armed with sticks to write in the sand.
The storm damage wasn’t as bad this year, however the waves had carved out a long ridge of sand that stretched as far as the eye could see. After a few false starts the kids were soon leaping off the 3ft high ridge.
We did some wave chasing too as the waves were quite high. One of the waves was particularly strong and Eliza wasn’t watching what was happening and got caught unawares – I grabbed her coat to pull her out the way but the hood came off in my hand – someone had a wet bottom for the rest of the afternoon, not that it bothered her! Any excuse to warm up with a nice steaming cup of Hot Chocolate!
