Michael Todd Soniclear Review

Cleaner skin begins with a cleaner brush™.

SONICLEAR is the first ever sonic skin cleansing brush with built-in antimicrobial protection against stain and odour causing bacteria. Sonic cleansing can create a breeding ground for microbial contamination when skin cells, makeup and moisture residue combine with bacteria that cling to the brush bristles between cleansings. Traditional rotary and sonic skin cleansing systems don’t offer protection against bacteria, so the team at Michael Todd set out to find a solution. After extensive research and testing, they found a way to incorporate safe, effective and durable antimicrobial technology into the brush heads at the time of manufacture. The result is SONICLEAR, a revolutionary sonic cleansing brush that thoroughly cleanses the skin and then protects itself against microbial contamination leaving the brushes cleaner, fresher for longer.

I was sent a SONICLEAR cleansing brush to review and was immediately drawn in by the aesthetics.  The pretty purple waterproof hand-held unit is ergonomically designed and balanced with soft, non-slip grips to prevent slipping, an extra plus when using in the shower.

The SONICLEAR unit comes with 2 Brush Heads: a smaller one designed for facial cleansing and a second extra-large brush head for faster, more efficient body cleansing.  The unit uses a patent-pending sonic-wave powered technology to micro-massage away dirt and other impurities and gently exfoliate at brush speeds in excess of 300 times per second.  It is powerful, yet gentle enough even for my sensitive skin.  The SONICLEAR removes makeup, cleanses and exfoliates all in one. They promise with just a minutes use per day, your skin can be healthier, clearer and brighter looking with smoother texture and refined pores.

It comes with a charger base and once charged you can find the speed setting that most suits you as it has six power settings. The Automatic Cleansing Timer lets you know when it’s time to move to another area of the face or body which stops you from concentrating on one particular area.

I have to admit I found the buzzing noise a little off putting but I persevered with it.  Facially it started working really well and my skin felt smoother almost immediatley but I then had a rosacea flare up.  I was going to stop using it but have since found out that when you first start using any kind of cleansing brush it is normal for the skin to see some flare ups within the first two weeks, caused by dead skin cells that you are removing clogging up your pores. After the two weeks there will be less and less dead skin cells and your pores adapt and open up and I am starting to notice a real improvement in not only the texture of my skin, but the redness too.

The body brush is a larger version of the face brush and you simply clip it into place.  Because it has 6 speeds you can adjust the settings for different areas of the body.  I use a faster setting for my elbows and knees which has helped remove any dead / harder skin and a more gentle setting elsewhere and it has made a real difference on my dull and dry winter skin as I have found my moisturiser absorbs much better after using it.

I have to admit it is not cheap, but in my opinion it is worth it as you will be saving money on exfoliators etc.  There is 20% off at the moment, taking the price down to £96 – maybe you could get hubby to treat you for Mothers Day?

  1. I’m intrigued by these types of brushes as I’ve heard such great things about them. I am tempted to purchase one, but then it is on the list with my other great desires (like a Go Pro!)

  2. I have been tempted by these so many times but never actually bought one, love the pretty design of this one and perhaps I will go for it if it makes that much of a difference, thanks.
