Mallorca – the Perfect Family Friendly Holiday Destination!

Up until now I have always seen Mallorca as a destination for stags and hens on their final furore before they get married, with Magaluf being a party destination that is also favoured by teens letting their hair down on their first holiday without the parents, but did you know that Mallorca is a fabulous family friendly island with lots to keep both the adults and children entertained.

Travelling to Mallorca with kids in tow is child’s play. We have two airlines that fly to Palma from our local airport of Bournemouth and at a journey time of just two hours, it is quicker to get there than it is London.

As we are a family of 8 we often find it cheaper to stay in a Villa and Book Mallorca has a great selection of villa’s to suit everyone. Choosing the property you want is easy too as if you know what you are looking for you can search in one of their catalogues, or if you know where you want to stay, search by area or simply choose one of the popular villa destinations. They have pool villas, luxury properties and even beach houses and apartments on offer which allows you to enjoy the island in your own way.

For the kids there are castles (sand and real), shallow sea and water parks to splash in, caves to explore and brilliant beaches for energy-burning activities. As a family that loves adventure, Mallorca is an outdoorsy wonderland as depending on how old they are, there’s all manner of water-based activities to engage their interest, from bouncy banana boat rides to PADI Bubblemaker scuba diving courses, spooky cave exploration and coastal kayaking with glass-bottomed boat rides allow a peek at life under the sea.

In the North of the Island, Alcúdia and Port de Pollença are great destinations for families with giant sandy bays ideal for go-easy days and I know my tribe would adore the Hidropark for whizzy slides, a wave pool and infants splash-pool area.

To the East of the Island you can tell tales of cave men as you duck through the glittering chambers of vast caves – none more impressive than the Coves del Drac. There are also castles for fantasy play, pony rides, boat trips, safari encounters and a cluster of lovely, gently shelving bays in the island’s east, too.

If city adventures are more your style, the island’s capital is like a history lesson come to life. Play spot-the-gargoyle (or in our case Weeping Angel) at the cathedral or clamber up to Castell de Bellver. Nearby, find giant water parks and an aquarium with brilliantly scary shark sleepovers.

I cannot wait until August to explore it all for myself!

  3. Sounds like an excellent holiday destination! I have been talking with my eldest about doing some scuba diving and snorkeling and such this summer, and Mallorca sounds like the perfect place to give it a go 🙂
