Making your home smell divine

With a new baby and a toddler in nappies, two smelly teenage boys and a penchant for spicy food, our house often doesn’t smell as fresh as a daisy.

I really cannot stand the synthetic smells of air fresheners or plug ins and prefer to use scented candles and wax tarts as an alternative, so when www.scentedcandleshop.com came to my rescue a couple of weeks ago when I ran out, I was eternally grateful.

The only problem I found with Scentedcandleshop.com was choosing.  With over 4,000 candles to choose from and a wide range of brands from Yankee Candles to Price’s Candles whittling my choice down was a challenge.

I do have a particular fondness for the Baby Powder scent, so my first choice was the Yankee Candle Baby Powder Multiwick candle which comes in a glass tumbler style jar.

The babypowder scent is the perfect starter if you have not tried scented candles before.  It captures the scent of a newborn baby with a relaxing baby powder fragrance, but is very light and not overpowering.  In fact I was a little disappointed that Sebastian’s Baby Powder didn’t smell like the candle as Johnson’s appear to have messed with the scent.

The multiwick feature gives it an extra dimension and makes it brighter and more striking when alight in the darkness, throwing flickering shadows over the walls.  The candle is great value too with 40-50 hours of burn time.

My second choice was the Yankee Candle Fruit Fushion Housewarmer Jar.  First of all, I love the jar and will be recycling it when the candle burns down and the scent is just divine.

Described as a summer-licious mix of berries, oranges and lime make this sunny fruit blend is refreshingly tart and sweet.  I would certainly agree and it does pack a punch as soon as it is lit, but it is not over-powering.  It is fab for masking cooking smells and has a real summery feel to it and is my current candle of choice and it has 110 hours of burn time too!

If you have not used scented candles before, I can highly recommend starting out with wax tarts – it is a really inexpensive way of finding your favourite scents.  You will need a burner too but these start at just £3.85 so won’t break the bank either.

scentedcandleshop.com also do a range of Citronella candles which are perfect for summer BBQ’s to keep those pesky insects at bay!

You can find Scented Candle Shop on Facebook where you will get all the latest news, products and offers first!
