John Freida’s Go Blonder Lightening Shampoo and Conditioner Review

I have had various colours in my hair over the years from blonde to red, brunette to even a peacock blue colour but now the grey hairs are starting to appear I keep my hair highlighted to try and disguise them.

Over the winter I tend to add some lowlights but now summer is on its way I like it to be a bit more sunkissed, so when I was invited to try John Freida’s Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Lightening Shampoo and Conditioner I was excited to give it a try.

The shampoo and conditioner are produced to gradually lighten blonde hair for a brighter sun-kissed look using an ammonia and peroxide-free formula that reduces colour pigments.

The shampoo and conditioner claims to lighten blonde hair by up to 2 shades and has been carefully developed for all shades of natural, colour-treated or highlighted blonde hair.

The first thing that struck me was its smell. It is not unpleasant but there is certainly hint of hair colourant to it when you are using it, although it doesn’t linger on the hair afterwards.

John Frieda Go Blonder

I had been hoping it might lighten my mousey coloured roots so I didn’t need to get them highlighted so often, but it hasn’t, but I have noticed that it has lightened the blonde and has stopped it from looking brassy. In fact, it has gone a very beautiful shade of white blonde on the ends.

I have also been using Hi-Impact Vibrancy Restoring Oil Elixir which helps to revive over-processed, dull hair and visibly repairs damage and replenishes your hair to bring life to dull strands. Basically it makes my hair soft and shiny.

If you are naturally (or dyed) blonde then these products are great for giving a natural looking sun-kissed boost to your hair, but if like me and hoping it might lighten the roots to disguise re-growth, it is not strong enough.

  2. I am naturally blonde (although currently red) so have never had need for them but I always wondered if shampoos like this actually worked.

  3. I used these products before and they are great! I like to use these ones and swap to the L’Oreal ones, so my hair can benefit from both of them x

  4. I used to use the John Frieda blonde products back when I was a teenager and they really did help my hair from looking brassy. I should start using them again!
