I have been a Harry Potter fan since the first book in the series was released and I have passed my love of the books and the films to the kids.
Last Christmas we became the proud owners of our very own Sorting Hat and it has been a huge hit with both family and friends.
We joked last year that they should bring out an Invisibility Cloak this time and Wow! Stuff have done just that with their Wizarding World Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak.
The pattern of the Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak has been made to look just like it did in the film, however the inner lining uses green screen technology to help you disappear using the Wow! Stuff app, available on App Store and Google Play. and suitable for smartphones or tablets running iOS 11 and Android 5.0 and above.
When the patterned side of the Invisibility cloak is facing the camera it will be visible on screen. However, when you flip your cloak inside out, so that the green lining is facing the camera, whatever or whoever is hidden beneath the cloak will magically disappear on screen!
How to use the Invisibility Cloak
Inside the box is the cloak and a phone stand and it does take a bit of practice to get it right and the phone needs to be completely still. Any slight movement and the app will ask you to start all over again, so you need to find a sturdy surface to start from. I popped my stand on top of my wheely bin to get the best height.
To Start:
- Take a picture of the area that you intend to use. Make sure your subject and the cloak are out of shot.
- Get your subject and the cloak into shot
- Photograph, or film yourself through the app on your smartphone or tablet and save the images and videos to your camera roll.
You can do all sorts of different shots and as you get more experienced with using the cloak, you can extend your repertoire.
Be aware that the cloak measures 55″ (139.7cm) in length, so is quite long for kids, but it also means that you can cover more, or use it yourself. Update for 2020 – they have launched a new children’s invisibility cloak to the range.
You do have to make sure that the cloak isn’t folded over, as the patterned side will be in shot, although sometimes this adds to the effect. The Invisibility Cloak is brilliant fun and the kids have been busy practicing their moves for fun videos on Tick Tock.

Oh wow! I want one, it works really well doesn’t it! We are big fans too, ever since my Mum passed me the first book and said you should read this you’ll enjoy it. We love the films and have been to the Studio tour so this would make a great gift.
