Give your home the ultimate Christmas clean

With just a few weeks left until Christmas, now is the time to start cleaning your home and preparing for the decorations to be hung. If you get the hard work out of the way early you’ll leave yourself plenty of spare time for shopping nearer the important day.

Deep cleaning your home

Many people leave preparations until the last minute and wish they hadn’t. If you start your cleaning preparations now you won’t have to worry later on. The best method is to deep clean, which can be carried out using a steam cleaner, available from companies such as Click Cleaning. These amazing appliances remove old grease and grime from cookers or bathrooms. There are many other products available, all of which will make life and cleaning a lot easier. You can even attack your curtains and shutters!

Preparing for visitors

Although keeping your house clean is a constant effort then Christmas time can be even worse for those who are house proud. An article in the Daily Mail shows that house proud women or men spend 52 minutes a day cleaning and this increases as the Christmas holidays approach. Instead of hiding all of your trinkets in the back of a cupboard and not be able to find them in the New Year, why not put them in a labelled plastic box, which will keep them dust free and easy to find?

Clearing and cleaning

Once you start looking through your drawers and cupboards it will soon become apparent that you have amassed a vast amount of rubbish, including old cables, plugs and various other forms of electrical goods that you’ll never use again. The best way to make some room is to take all of these to a local charity who will be able to recycle them; this will create some additional space in your home. Some jobs may not be on your regular cleaning list but when the holidays approach and family and friends are due to descend upon you, then giving the curtains a quick wash and polishing the skirting boards will not go amiss.

Protect yourself from food poisoning

An article on the Derby City Council website states that up to 80% of people at Christmas increase their chance of getting food poisoning by washing their turkey or chicken. Meat doesn’t have to be washed in advance of cooking. The website also says that many people don’t keep work surfaces clean after cutting raw meat, these problems can all be avoided by using a good quality anti-bacterial surface cleaner and hand wash. If you prepare your kitchen in advance of the Christmas period then keeping a cool head when you’re cooking the main Christmas meal will be easier.

The ultimate in cleaning

If you really want to make your home look perfect, then you could always go through the house one room at a time, anything you don’t want to throw away you can always box up and put in the loft. Once you’ve started though, you will have to finish, otherwise your guests will have to fight their way through your clutter and debris.
