All the fun of the fair at Folly Farm

As part of my role as the Britmums Family Days Out editor I have read and included many posts about Folly Farm and have been itching to visit for some time.

Over half term we enjoyed a short break at Bluestone and with Folly Farm a short 15 minute drive away, this was our chance to visit.

We arrived at opening time and couldn’t wait to start exploring everything that it had to offer and we certainly weren’t disappointed. We loved it so much that if it were local to us we would certainly be buying season tickets.

Folly Farm’s name is a little misleading, although they do have farm animals, there is so much more to see and do with 120 acres to explore. We started with the Barn, where the kids got to get up close and personal to furry, fluffy and feathered creatures.

The Jolly Barn was once the farm’s dairy parlour and is huge. There is the chance to meet and greet its residents during the day, learn how to milk a cow (Eliza was surprisingly good at this) or just play on the equipment which is dotted around the barn.

Outside the barn is a large courtyard with picnic tables which leads to the zoo, past a barn which houses the Fairground. We decided to explore the zoo and its 90 different species of animals which include a pride of lions, penguins, giraffe, zebra and lemurs.

Most of the animals were out enjoying the dry, blustery weather and we enjoyed watching a couple of talks, including the rhino and the giraffe.

The lions were all asleep on the top of their mound so we kept heading back to see if they had moved so we could get a better view and were finally rewarded for our efforts.

We also got to meet a gorgeous Macaw who repeated “Hello” to us over and over again, much to everyone’s delight.

Folly Farm has 8 fabulous adventure play areas both indoors and out so the kids can enjoy themselves whatever the weather, but there was one place they wanted to visit – the fairground.

Folly Farm Play Park

I am ashamed to admit I have never taken the kids to a traditional fair. They have ridden the Carousel and raced around on dodgems but they are not really thrillseekers when it comes to rides – or so I thought.

Folly Farm has a lovingly restored vintage fairground with 17 funfair rides to try. To ride them you need to buy tokens so it is an extra cost, however, a token is just 50p and most rides cost between one or two tokens each, which is very reasonable and my kids tried them all and loved it!!

Folly Farm Fairground

My rollercoaster hating children enjoyed being spun around on the waltzer, racing around the Carousel, flung around on the twister and skidding their way around the track on the swirl.

Folly Farm Fair

There were six of us doing the rides and playing traditional fairground games and we spent an additional Β£25 between us, so it is worth factoring in that cost if you visit.

We saved money on the day by taking a picnic, however, there are restaurants, cafe’s and even a coffee shop if you want to eat there and the park is perfectly designed with families in mind with plenty of accessible toilets and baby changing areas.

Folly Farm

Tickets cost Β£13.95 for adults, Β£11.95 for children and Β£4.95 for toddlers (under 2’s are free).

I highly recommend a visit to Folly Farm if you are in Pembrokeshire, it is the perfect mix of fun and animals for all the family……..now I need to find a fairground near me!!

  1. That looks like so much fun! I agree the name is a bit misleading, I wouldn’t expect to see lions on a farm πŸ™‚ We’ll be sure to head over and visit if we’re in the area after reading such a positive review!

  2. AW it looks lovely. My kids are older now, but I used to love going to places like this with them when they were little – so much fun for them to explore.

  3. Wow Folly Farm looks like so much fun! My nanny children would love to go here. But it’s let a little too far away. It looks like there is so much more to do than normal farms which is nice. Something for all the family.

  4. Folly Farm looks an amazing day out. The admission price is so good too! Penguins are my favourite animal so I would love to see those.
I agree Farm is a bit of a misleading name for it, it looks so much more than that.

  5. The first time we went to Folly Farm was years ago and it was more focused on farm animals then. Since they have added the Giraffes, Penguins, Lions and so much more. It’s a lovely day out, and like you say the play areas and the vintage fair are fab. We love it there. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it and your visit to Wales πŸ™‚
