Eliza’s Mermaid Birthday Party

Last year Eliza had her first experience of mermaid swimming and loved every second of it, so when we asked what she wanted to do for her birthday, they was only one answer – a mermaid party.

This is the first party she has had where she has had to limit numbers, which was a bit of a struggle at first, however, we were helped by the fact that attendees had to be aged 7+, able to swim a minimum of 25m and swim using a dolphin kick.

The party was held locally at Montacute School, which is a lovely warm pool where Sebby had swimming lessons as a baby. When we arrived, all the tails and fins were laid out waiting for the girls and they all gave a little squeal of excitement when they saw them.

There were two swimming teachers, Beth and Sam, present for the party, one who concentrated on teaching the girls and the other armed with a GoPro to get some underwater footage of them swimming.

The first thing they did was warm the girls up and assess their swimming ability, with a few laps of the pool using different swimming strokes, before helping them put their tails and fins on.

Starting at the shallow end, they then got the girls swimming one by one, helping them master swimming with their tails on and it wasn’t long before they were swimming full lengths of the pool.

Beth and Sam were brilliant with all the girls, encouraging them all the way and it wasn’t long before they were doing tricks, both on top of and under the water.

Once the girls were fully confident, they got to swim through hoops and collect sinkers from the bottom of the pool.

One of the best things about the party, is that the teachers took pictures of all the girls having fun under the water, so they all have fantastic memories for life, of the time they became mermaids!

The girls got to swim for 90 minutes, which was plenty as they were all shattered by the end of the session and then had their faces painted and all posted for mermaid photo’s on a special backdrop.

They even let me bring Eliza’s cake, made by my friend Michelle from Sculpted Bakes, poolside for a very special photo.

Once the girls were back on dry land and dressed, we headed to Frankie and Benny’s for a well deserved lunch.

Thank you Beth and Sam for making Eliza’s day so special!
