Dreaming of a cosy evening around the fire

I had to pop to the shop this evening and as I stepped out the door I noticed that there was a real chill in the air, despite having a coat on.

I am quite stubborn when it comes to putting on the heating and will not have it on until at least October, preferring to layer up with jumpers instead, but there is one thing I would do now if I had one – light the fire.

Our last house had a real fire and it was a real treat to have one. Nothing beats cosying up around a real fire on a cold, dark winters night and one of the highlights of spending Christmas at Coombe Mill last year was having a family Christmas around a roaring fire.

Fireplaces also add character, charm and warmth to your home and become the focal point in any room and if like us you don’t have a chimney you can add an electric wall mounted fire to the room. Our fireplace was in our house when we moved in frustrates me as it is not in a central position so I have been looking around for one to replace it.

Having a real fire is not a possibility in our house but I was really excited when I found out you can have a Bioethanol fireplace without the need for a chimney and they are so simple to use.

Simply pour the Bioethanol into the burner box and light. The Bioethanol fuel burns with 98% efficiency, so its clean burning, leaves no unpleasant residue and can be adjusted to produce more or less heat just like a gas fire. Simply close the burner box to put the fire out.

I know it won’t be quite the same as building a roaring fire and listening to the wood crackling and popping as it burns, but it certainly better than having no fire at all.

  1. Nothing beats a real fire does it?! I grew up living with my Nanna and Grandad who had a real fire in their house. It was so nice on a cold wintry day to snuggle up in front of the fire. Happy memories x

  2. Oh I do love a good fire Kara. We had a wood burning one (albeit gas!) at our house in London and I just loved it. I always get cold in the Winter, husband puts it down to my lizard skin. Would love to have another one again but I think it might be a way off yet 🙂
