Back at the beginning of January last year I set myself a challenge of 19 goals for 2019.
My aim was to check back on them and do a monthly update, but life got in the way and it was only when writing my yearly round-up that I fell back across it.
The question is, did any of my goals stick in my head enough to achieve them?
Do more walking
Ironically, we have just watched Julia Bradbury’s Britain’s 100 Favourite Walks again and have come up with a plan to do more walks again this year.
I didn’t walk the Jurassic Coast as planned, but we did climb Mount Snowdon which was a real achievement, especially with a 5 year old in tow, plus did a lot of walking during our holidays to Northern Ireland and Iceland.
Go Swimming
I spend around 10 hours a week sat by the side of a swimming pool whilst the kids train, but really miss swimming myself.
Sadly the only time I have swam has been on holiday, but I have trained as a J1 Swimming Official, so can help out at swimming gala’s rather than watching from the sidelines.
Replace our doors
Yes, and no!
We have finally replaced the doors between our lounge and our dining room. Sadly the remainder of our doors still need doing, but we have quotes so fingers crossed it will be completed this year.
Go to more Theatre Shows
Now this one I definitely achieved.
This year we have seen Les Miserable, Nativity the Musical, Matilda, The Full Monty, Horrible Histories and the Worst Witch at Mayflower Theatre.
Do my Tax Return in April
Erm…………….nope, on my to-do list for next week!
Explore more of the UK
Yes!
I have not ticked off all my list but we did managed to do a Game of Thrones tour of Northern Ireland, Belfast, Dublin and Snowdonia as well as lots of locations closer to home.
Create a days out wishlist with the kids
This we did do and we have enjoyed some lovely days out to places we had yet to go to, like Jump In in Salisbury.
Earn more money from the blog
It is definitely getting harder and harder to earn money from blogging. I have been lucky enough to take part in a couple of campaigns that helped pay for the redesign of my travel blog arewenearlythereyet.co.uk. My biggest revenue stream is currently YouTube, but that is likely to change this year with their new role out affecting videos which feature the kids.
Get Fit
I started the year the heaviest I have ever been, partly due to taking steroids for my arthritis.
I am very proud to say that I have lost 21lbs since (I haven’t weighed myself since Christmas), but my weight is definitely heading in the right direction with a combination of healthier eating and exercise
Be more adventurous
Yes!!!
I kayaked out to Old Harry Rocks, we have bought a paddleboard and during our holiday to North Wales I tried climbing, canoeing and did Zip World Fforest,
Get the tap fixed in the bathroom
It has been fixed!!
Speak to a Financial Advisor
We did book an appointment, but something came up and we had to cancel. Back on my list for this year.
Get a new car
Yes!!
I even won the battle and got to choose the car I thought was most suitable after reviewing one. Sadly, I rarely get to drive it as Hubby uses it for work and I can walk to mine.
Stop worrying about things I cannot change
I think it is natural to worry. I spent the first half of the year appealing a school decision for Isaac and we then found out that Abbey was expecting a baby, but I am trying not to sweat the small stuff.
Cook fresh more often
My slow cooker has been broken out of retirement and although I don’t cook from scratch every day, we do more often than we used to
Celebrate the kids achievements
It has been a year of achievements for the kids and we could not be prouder.
They may not come back with several medals around their necks, but they are improving on their times, keeping fit and enjoying it!!
Don’t compare your child to others. There’s no comparison between the sun and the moon. They shine when it’s their time!
Find time to spend with Hubby
We have made a real effort to spend more time with each other this year.
Now that Kian is at university we have lost a babysitter, however, we try and have a day off together during the week and go out for breakfast whilst the kids are at school.
See friends more often
Failed miserably!
Going back to work and all the kids various activities have really impacted how often I see my friends – in fact I think I only see them on facebook and the odd blog event these days.
Keep on top of my blogging to-do list
I have done better, but still need to stop procrastinating!!
I actually did better than I thought, but definite room for improvement for 2020!!
It seems like you gave your goals a really good try this year. Achieving quite a lot it would seem. I’ve just set mine for 2020 but have only set 5, I didn’t want to try and do too much.
I think you have done really well hun. So many achieved! I think I need to do this especially spending more time With friends and hubby!!
You’ve achieved so many of your goals and lots of them are ones you’d always work on anyway so any progress is brilliant you should be super pleased
It sounds like you achieved a lot of your goals for 2019!
I didn’t really set any resolutions last year, but this year I’m planning on working my way through my list of 30 things I’d like to achieve before my 30th birthday in December. I think I might do a monthly check-up to track my progress and make sure I’m still on track!
I am so pleased I didn’t copy you and think of my own 19 as I’m pretty certain I’ll have achieved none of them
You definitely seem to have achieved many of your goals! It sounds like you got up to so much and you all managed to achieve so much.
Sounds like you have achieved so much. I also need to watch more theatre and stop worrying about things that I can’t change. Great news about the bathroom tap!
I think you should be pleased with how much you achieved in 2019. You may not have completed everything but you’ve done so well! And congrats on the weight loss, I can only dream of that x
You’ve done really well. Most of what you have achieved seem to be the most enjoyable parts! It sounds like you’ve had a very busy year and I wish you the best for 2020.
I think you did great! And at least the things you didnt manage can be ticked off first in 2020! I love putting a goals list together – me and my youngest created vision boards this year 🙂
I love your list, and you’ve honestly done really well. I didn’t set any resolutions for 2019, given how poorly I did on my 2018 list, but in the Summer I did write a list of things I want to achieve before my next birthday (in September).
Oh wow it sounds like you had a wonderful 2019 and did so well with your goals! I am not setting goals this year, I found myself focusing on them and what I should be doing rather than what I wanted to be doing, so this year my focus is on being me.
I want to spend more time with John on his own this year. We’re going out for a meal with friends on Friday.
What a wonderful. 2019! A good start with replacing your door. I’m positive you’ll get to.change the rest this year.
Your post is really good. It is really helpful for me to improve my knowledge in the right way. Thanks for sharing wonderful information.
