The Easter Bunny Trail at Compton Acres

Japanese Gardens

Compton Acres is somewhere I have fond memories of visiting as a child, however, I have not been for years.

Compton Acres is one of the UK’s finest privately-owned gardens, and a magical place for families to explore, especially now spring is coming into bloom.

The kids collected their Easter Bunny Trail sheets from the entrance which challenged them to solve the mystery clues of who stole what from the Easter Bunny and where had they hidden it?

The gardens’ design takes the form of a necklace of separate gardens, each of which has its own unique style. Compton Acres is also a popular wedding venue and we were treated to listening to a fabulous choir, who were performing for a wedding in the Grand Italian Garden as we walked past the terrace.

The series of themed gardens includes the Italian Garden, the Japanese Garden, the rock and water garden, the wooded valley, children’s activity area, bog garden and sculpture garden. to mention just a few.

The kids loved exploring, running along the paths, climbing bridges, finding waterfalls and fun things to examine.

Following our recent holiday to Wales, Eliza is fast becoming a flower expert and really enjoyed identifying flowers. She spotted periwinkles, forget-me-nots, marsh marigolds, bluebells, primroses and more!

Our favourite areas to explore were the Sculpture Gardens, where the kids tried their best to blend in.

And the Japanese Garden, which is recognised as one of the best in Britain.

The kids loved negotiating the stepping stones and spotting the Koi Carp in the pond.

I will definitely be coming back in the summer to see all the Japanese Wisteria in bloom on the Tea House.

We spent about 90 minutes exploring the gardens and doing the trail, plus there is a small garden centre and cafe if you want to extend your visit.

The kids solved the mystery of the mystery of the Easter Bunny and their reward was a delicious chocolate lolly.

Compton Acres is set in the Canford Cliffs area of Poole and offers glimpses of Poole Harbour from some of the gardens.

A family ticket to Compton Acres costs £19.50 (2 adults and up to 3 children). The Easter Bunny Trail takes place from Saturday 6th April to Sunday 21st April. The challenge is free of charge but normal entry to the gardens applies.

What a lovely place. I could sit and watch the koi fish all day! It is so relaxing to watch those beautiful fish gracefully swimming in the pond. I think the ticket price is very reasonable too.
