Clearing Out Your Wardrobe

Decluttering and tidying your bedroom might be one of the most satisfying cleaning chores that you can do. After all, at the end of an excellent clean and tidy, you get to reap the rewards of a comfortable and relaxing room.

One of the most significant issues for many is clothing storage.

Over the years we tend to buy more clothes than we get rid of. And this can lead to some serious storage problems.

So maybe it’s time for the final clear out, clearing your wardrobe out once and for all.

The chances are there are plenty of clothes in there that don’t fit, or that you simply do not enjoy wearing.

One of the critical things before you start clearing your wardrobe out is to ensure you are up-to-date with the laundry. If you aren’t, you will be left trying to guess what is in the laundry basket, as well as are trying to handle dirty clothes to make the whole thing work.

Key thoughts

Here are some of the questions that you should ask yourself when you are cleaning out your closet.

  • Does this fit? You should only keep things that fit you now.
  • Does this suit my style? Style is ever-evolving, and a wardrobe doesn’t always reflect our style, so it is a good idea to check that the items match what you enjoy wearing.
  • Do I like it? If you don’t like the item of clothing, don’t give it room in your home.
  • When did you last wear it? If you haven’t worn something in the last few years, or you simply can’t remember wearing it, it’s all the chances are you’re not going to wear it in the future.

You need to do this with every piece of clothing. Some pieces of clothing can have sentimental value, in which case you can choose to keep them. Other pieces of clothing will take less than a second to hit the donation pile.

You should also be mindful of where your clothes are going. You might find that you have quite a pile ready to go. Look up a number of donation places that will take the clothing. Anything that is not in good condition, then you can sell to a materials buyer, or tear it and use it as a cleaning cloth.

If you have some particularly high quality, high-value clothing, then it is worth checking out Depop and eBay. Vinted is also a great place to look for selling clothes that you no longer want. Just be mindful that you will need to include Posten packaging, and if the object is quite heavy, this can be quite a few quid.

Your wardrobe

If it has been quite some time since you have cleaned inside your wardrobe, now is the perfect opportunity to do so. Most of us reach for the same clothes day in and day out, which means other’s language at the bottom of the wardrobe.

You might find a pair of shoes that can take you through the next few months, or you might find a beloved T-shirt you haven’t seen in quite some time. If your wardrobes are less than friendly, it might be time to upgrade them for a sliding door wardrobe.

Give your wardrobe the love it deserves, and give it a good clean. Place some scented wardrobe liners in there, and when you return your trimmed down set of clothing, you can enjoy and easily access the great smelling collection of clothing.

Accessories

Many people start with the accessories as they can be the easiest thing to do. One of the most effective clear out strategies is to start with things that are small, like accessories. Take all of your bags, scarves, hats, and other accessories and leave them out in a place that you can see.

Don’t look at them next to other items of clothing; they have to stand out to you as a standalone piece. Try to remember the last time you used each item, and if you can’t remember, then it’s probably time to say goodbye.

Accessories tend to sell pretty well and also can be donated too.

Just remember to check all of the pockets on any bags so that you don’t lose that hidden £5 note.

Outfits

When you are sorting through all of your clothing, try to put together a number of outfits that you will wear. It would decide if you should keep those purple velour trousers, try to put a number of outfits together. Everything in your wardrobe should earn its place, and this requires it to be able to be worn in more than just one way.

If you are trying on clothes, make sure that you always do this in front of a full-length mirror.

Take time to clean out your wardrobe and give your closet a fresh start.
