Camp Bestival 2014 – The Finale

The final day of Camp Bestival had arrived and despite having an amazing time, we decided to pack up the tent in the morning with the aim of leaving after the fireworks in the evening – but not before cooking a sausage sandwich breakfast on our camping stove.

Taking the tent down was fairly painless, although we couldn’t get the zip done up on the bag, but it was in!  Hubby and Kian took five trips to the cars, just leaving the trolley, a change of clothes and jumpers for the rest of the day – they definitely worked off those sausage sandwiches!

The first port of call was the Lower Kids Garden where we got to do all the things we had missed on the previous days such as the LEGO and DUPLO stands, the carousel, Punch & Judy, the sandpit, Science Tent and the daily dose of Skylanders Trap Team.

Eliza was desperate to see Ben and Holly who were compering the Castle Stage but sadly fell asleep and missed them, much to her disgust when she finally woke up!  She was awake for Chas and Dave though, who were introduced by the brilliantly self depreciating Warwick Davies.  They soon got the crowd bouncing along to some of their most loved classics like Margate and Rabbit.

As the day progressed we took the kids to burn off some energy at the circus school, before setting off to see the act we had been looking forward to most, comedian Milton Jones!  He certainly didn’t disappoint with his deadpan delivery of joke after joke, although I would have preferred a longer set as he was only on stage for half an hour!

When Milton had finished it was time to head back to the Castle Stage for the final act of the day – Basement Jaxx.  We put on our jumpers, found a space in the huge crowd, broke out the glow sticks and waited for the set to begin.

They were amazing!

Even Titan the Robot made an appearance!

I have the most fabulous memories of Eliza rocking out on top of Daddy’s shoulders.

The finale was one of the best firework displays I have ever seen.

My photo’s and video don’t do it justice, so here is Camp Bestival’s own recording – I still get goosebumps watching it back!

We left straight after the fireworks ended and was very surprised by how clear the roads were.  The kids were home and in their own beds by midnight – that can’t be bad!
