What to buy Mum this Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day is on 26th March this year and if you are stuck for what gift to get for your Mum, I have a few suggestions for you.

Mothering Sunday is a Christian celebration, which we celebrate in the UK exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday and was originally a day for Christians to visit their ‘mother’ church.

Did you know that traditionally, domestic servants were given the day off to return to their hometown and worship with their families. On their way home, these youths would pick wild flowers to place in the church, or give to their mums.

The day has since evolved into an occasion for children to honour and give presents to their hardworking mums, and has lost a lot of its religious meaning. It is one of the few dates that we celebrate as a family.

Here are my gift picks for you:

A New Mum

A first Mother’s Day is possibly the most special of all.

Nothing prepares you for the whirlwind of having and caring for a new baby and it is important to remember that they don’t stay this size for long so having a keepsake of how tiny they were is a lovely gift.

There are lots of personalised gift ideas to choose from with Eternal Impressions, from hand and foot print jewellery to keyrings, to castings and ornaments.

Eternal Impressions

Mum of Toddlers

If you kids are anything like mine then they don’t know the meaning of sleeping past 6am so the best present you can get is the chance for Mum to have a lie-in (you know, leave her to sleep until at least 8am).

To make it even more special, wake her up with a cup of tea and have a nice steaming hot bath ready and waiting for her with some Olverum therapeutic bath oil. It contains 10 pure essential oils, carefully blended to work synergistically. Accordingly, an Olverum bath is a very effective way to naturally relieve  stress and help you achieve a great nights’ sleep. It is also a great way to ease aching or sore muscles (such a treat after a workout!) and is the perfect soothing antidote to a cold or flu. All with a gorgeously aromatic, unisex scent which fills the whole house.

Mum of Primary School Kids

Once kids start drawing and writing, the amount of artwork they demand get pinned on the fridge can get overwhelming. I have forgotten what colour my fridge actually is as it is covered in pictures and photo’s.

I love this idea of getting your favourite picture engraved on a glass vase, or you could get the kids to draw a picture of their family which will be treasured for years to come.

Mum of Teens

Being a mum of a teenager is super stressful. Not only do they know their own minds, but they also answer back too and sometimes you have sit back and let them make their mistakes and then be there to help them pick up the pieces.

Hanging out with Mum and Dad is also not something that happens often so plan a fun day out that everyone will enjoy, which could be a day at a theme park – we loved our VIP Experience at Thorpe Park, or a meal out somewhere special.

Mum of Grown Up Kids

She has successfully got you to adulthood, so it is important to remember your Mum on Mother’s Day so don’t forget to send a card at the very least.

Serenata Flowers

If you are not local then pick up the phone, use facetime or skype and give her a phone call to say you love her and if you can afford it, a bunch of flowers or a gift voucher for a pamper session always goes down well too.

What gifts do you like to receive on Mother’s Day?
