A Blustery visit to Port Isaac

Cornwall is a the county we visit for holiday’s more than any other but there is still so much of it that I want to explore.  One of the places at the top of my list was Port Isaac and we finally got to visit it over Christmas.

It was a blustery day and we parked in the first carpark we found on the top of a cliff overlooking the Atlantic.  The views took our breath away almost immediately and even the kids were fascinated by the waves that were crashing over the rocks.

It was a short walk around the corner before we found the cove and the village itself which mostly consists of beautiful 18th and 19th. century cottages, along narrow alleys and ‘opes’ winding down the steep hillsides which Sebastian took great delight in half walking / half running down whilst tightly gripping Abbey’s hand.

When we arrived the tide was out so the kids got to explore on the sand and see what the rock pools had to offer.  They were also fascinated by the fishermen who were racing to get their boat organised before the tide turned and started to come back in.

Port Isaac

It really is a stunning place to visit and Isaac had to get his picture taken with at least one sign with his name on!

Much of the village was closed including the public toilets but the lovely staff at the Pottery shop / Cafe let us use theirs.  I would love to visit in the summer when the weather is better to see Port Isaac in its full glory.  We definitely blew the cobwebs away though!

  2. It’s a lovely little fishing village and bustling with tourists in summer. I do hate the way they close the public toilets though. We got caught out at Polzeath this week too. On the plus side parking is much easier in winter! Lovely photos as always. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.

  3. I so wanted to go to Port Isaac when we were at Coombe Mill in October. But like you said, there’s so much to see and do and it’s hard to fit it all in! It looks so lovely though… and your photos definitely make me want to go more now! #countrykids
