We went to the BFX Festival last weekend with no idea what to expect.
It was a new animation and VFX festival based in Bournemouth. They hosted a range of events for various audiences but we were most interested in the family event which consisted of an outdoor cinema in the Triangle: screening Finding Nemo, Lilo & Stitch and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit at various intervals throughout the day and an animation workshop in the Library.
We arrived in Bournemouth around 10.30am, parked and headed for the Triangle. Eliza immediately spotted the large cinema screen which was showing Finding Nemo, and screamed “NEMO” at the top of her voice. We watched a bit of the film but it started raining so we headed into the Library for the animation workshop.
We were greeted by a lovely lady called Jessica who showed us around and explained what we had to do.
First we had to create characters to take part in our story – Eliza and Isaac got cracking straight away, but Kian was less keen until he saw what fun they were having and got stuck in himself.
They were very proud of their artwork, and were soon busy coming up with a storyline.
Next on the agenda was choosing our background. We had a superhero theme, so Isaac chose the sky and they created a party scene which was going to be invaded by “bad guys”.
The kids had great fun laying out their characters, and a few others that other children had made, and got busy moving them slightly to create a story.
We then got to watch a very high speed version of our animation on the computer before it
goes to the studio to be edited properly and then sent to us……. and here is everyones efforts.
By now the sun was shining again, so we headed outside to watch Wallace and Gromit and met up with Joanne from CharlieMoos and her little ones.
