Berndes Crockpot Review and Giveaway

I have always wanted a stoneware crockpot to make my winter stews in – my mum swears by hers and uses it for cooking roasts, marinating and even serving food in but it is something I never got around to owning, until now.

If you shop at Tesco you can collect stickers to get up to 70% off Berndes stoneware and cast iron products simply by shopping in store or filling your car with fuel.  For every £20 you spend you can collect one sticker and you only need to collect 5 to get your discount!

I now have my very own ceramic crockpot and I couldn’t wait to get started.  One of my family’s favourite meals is Sausage Jambalya so I decided to throw my crockpot in at the deep end.

Ingredients:

Olive Oil
Good Quality Pork sausages
100g Cooking Chorizo, sliced into 1cm thick pieces
1 Onion, finely chopped or grated
1 Green Chilli, deseeded and chopped
1 Green Pepper, chopped
1 Red Pepper, chopped
1 Yellow Pepper, chopped
2 Sticks of Celery, chopped
2 Garlic Cloves, chopped
1 Green Pepper and 1 Red Pepper deseeded and chopped into small squares
300g Long grain rice
400g Tin of chopped tomatoes
600ml chicken or vegetable stock
A dash of Dorsetshire Sauce
A dash of Tabasco sauce (optional)
Salt & freshly ground pepper

Instructions:

In the crockpot heat a good glug of Olive Oil on a medium heat.  Cook the sausages until they start to brown, then add the chorizo and cook for a further 90 seconds, while the chorizo releases red oils.

Add the onion, green chilli, celery and garlic, stirring for 2 minutes, then add the green and red peppers.  Continue to stir everything for a further minute, then pour in the long grain rice, mixing it well with the other ingredients in the pan.  Throw in the tomatoes, stock, a dash of Dorsetshire Sauce and the Tabasco

Cover, bring to the boil and simmer for 30 minutes until all the liquid has been absorbed.  (Check the pan from time to time and add a little water if necessary)

Berndes

I have to admit to normally cooking this dish in a wok but it was so much tastier cooked in the pot as keeping the lid on really infused the flavours.
My mum has a Le Crueset pot and quality wise there appears to be no difference.  I can see this is going to be used a lot this winter and can;t wait to start my next winter warmer!
You can collect stickers for your own crockpot up until 11th January and they can be redeemed up to the 25th January but the lovely team at Tesco have offered me a 24cm pot (worth £120) to giveaway.  (please note this will take around 6 weeks for delivery)

  2. I’ve been dying to try making French onion soup in the crock pot. I love these Berndes dishes, have the roasting tins so the crock pots are next on my list.

  6. If it was for the whole family I would cook sausage casserole as it always goes down a treat in our house but if it was something nice for me and the hubby then it would have to be a nice lamb stew. Fab prize
