We really enjoy days out at National Trust properties, with Easter being the kids favourite thanks to their fun themed Easter Egg hunts and the promise of a Cadbury chocolate egg as a reward for their efforts.
With the weather being a bit hit and miss over bank holiday weekend, I stalked the forecast and made a plan to visit during the driest spell of the day. It is also worth visiting the facebook page of the property you are visiting during inclement weather, as Kingston Lacy closed its overflow carpark.
Luckily we arrived for opening time and parked with no problem, eager to head out in search of the clues.
As we renewed our membership when we arrived, we got a voucher to join the Easter Egg Hunt for free – it normally costs £2.50 per head, and collected our clue sheets and headed off in search of the answers.
Kingston Lacy is one of our favourite NT locations and we do the Easter Egg Hunt here every year, but they never use the same route or the same clues, so it is always different. This year we had to follow a story and solve Bunny’s clues which was a lovely touch.
The booklet was aimed perfectly at all ages and had us searching for the first signs of spring and seeing if we could spot any animals or animal tracks.
The clues were easy to find on the trail, but that didn’t stop us from taking small diversions for some tree climbing fun.
Sebby hasn’t found his tree climbing confidence yet, but he happily drew the things he could see in his booklet instead.
Another good thing about egg hunting locally, is that you bump into friends and the kids were soon racing ahead, chatting, playing and finding clues together.
We found the last clue in the play park and the kids spent ages climbing and exploring before we managed to tear them away.
They were more than happy with their chocolate reward, although none actually made it home!!
Don’t panic if you think you are too late for some Easter Egg Hunting fun, some National Trust properties, like Kingston Lacy, are running hunts until 15th April but do check the website before travelling to avoid disappointment.

We did a egg hunt at Tyntefield NT whilst on holiday too. The trails are a lot more imaginative thah others we have done. It looks like you all had a great day out together #countrykids

I think the National Trust and me had the same idea this year, we had a bunny story for our Easter Egg Hunt too, though our bunny was finding Chocolate Egg clues. We also mix up the route, the clues and the stops each year so the regulars still find it a good adventure. I do love the look on your kids faces with their Eggs at the end and no surprise they didn’t make it home. I hadn’t realised you could may membership monthly, one family visit a month must make it pay.
