One of our favourite days out in Dorset is to Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre and in the month of January 2019, they are offering half price entry for locals, meaning that a family ticket costs £19 instead of £38 (BH, DT or SP postcodes).
Monkey World is a 65 acre ape and monkey sanctuary and rescue centre near Wool and is most famous for the TV series, Monkey Life, shown on channel 5 which follows the rescue and rehabilitation of abused and neglected primates.
We arrived on a beautifully sunny, but very cold day, so found that most of the primates were, quite sensibly, relaxing indoors to keep warm, but that didn’t detract from the enjoyment as their are large glass windows on each enclosure so you can see them all clearly.
During our visit there was plenty of time to learn all about the amazing work that Monkey World does and we attended a couple of keeper talks to discover more about the animals they look after.
What the kids really enjoy about Monkey World, is the chance to release their inner ape and enjoy the three adventure play parks that are dotted around the site.
In fact, with Callan and Kian along to join in the fun, Sebastian got assistance at getting to the very tops of the climbing frames and back down again.
The play areas feature a variety of climbing equipment, swings, roundabouts and spring toys which are suitable for children of all ages, including BIG kids!
They are spread out nicely around the site, so you can see your favourite apes and then try to copy some of their moves on the equipment.
My only negative feedback from our day out was that all the refreshment stations were closed, apart from the restaurant at the entrance to the park, during our visit, so I would advise that you take snacks and a flask of hot drink with you.
That said, it was just Hubby and I that could have done with a warming drink, the kids were more than happy racing around the park to even think about being cold.
I did have some empathy with this chimp by the end of the day though!
I highly recommend a visit to Monkey World, some of the apes may have been inside keeping warm, but there is still plenty to see and do for the whole family and costing less than £20 for a family of four during January, for locals, its an inexpensive day out.
