Sebastian has been attending Turtle Tots for swimming lessons since he was 4 months old. As we have progressed through the stages new techniques have been added and some old favourites taken away as classes for toddlers are a natural progression from our baby swimming classes.
We are now working on a balanced set of activities which include swimming technique, safety skills, floating, individual and group work including songs and games, but most of all we have fun.
To say Sebastian is water confident is an understatement. He adores being in the water and the smile on his face throughout lessons is infectious and his little legs kick furiously as he chases the fish or the ball. We did have a wobble stage where he refused point-blank to try using a woggle, but thankfully we seem to be passed that now.
We are continuing to build on Sebastian’s water confidence and we are now working stroke development which will help him progress to independent swimming when he is around two.
The classes are packed full of fun songs that we all join in with and all the other parents are encouraging of each others children. All the toddlers are walking now so we are trying to teach them to jump in from standing. Sebastian is a late walker so hasn’t quite mastered it but he loves launching himself in from the sitting position!
He initially hated riding on my back through the water but the perseverance has paid off and now he really enjoys it. My only problem is getting him back off again.
The kids swimming lessons have definitely paid off as when we went away recently we all got to enjoy the pool despite now having the right number of adults per child as the lifeguard could see they were all confident in the water.
Turtle Tots lessons are also good exercise for us mums as we charge around the pool with the little ones in tow and we have a really sociable group and get to have some adult conversation too!

My son loves swimming but I can’t stand around in the water for any length of time as my circulation stops! He goes swimming with daddy though.
I’ve been wanting to take one of my children too a toddler swimming group for years now. Our 8 month old is to be our last baby so must get round to doing it this time lol!

Both of mine attend swimming lessons and have done from a very young age and love it. It’s so important for them to learn to swim.
It’s great to give them confidence in the water from such an early age 🙂
