I have always taken pride in the fact that I (mostly) like chart music, and will choose the radio over a CD 90% of the time as I like variety in my music.
My radio choices have changed over the last few years, mainly fuelled by Chris Moyles leaving Radio One. I know he was marmite for a lot of people but I found his dry humour and banter with his colleagues refreshing. Now with Grimmy on the breakfast show I just cannot bring myself to tune in, although I occasionally listen to Fearne and Greg James.
Hubby has always had a far more varied musical taste than mine and prefers to make playlists on his phone which he then plays in his car or on the bluetooth stereo. I enjoy listening to the Podding Shed, a podcast about Chelsea Football Club but I have recently noticed that his musical tastes have got, what can only be described as, random!
He has introduced Eliza and Isaac to rock music, and I often have them singing “We’re not going to Take it” by Twisted Sister at full volume whilst bouncing on the trampoline. Then there are tunes like “Come on Eileen” and I think I even heard a Jive Bunny medley the other day!
Even at the school disco there seems be a bit of an 80’s revival going on. I think the parents loved getting involved in the Superman Song, much to the amusement of the kids who were watching and I still remember all the moves to Agadoo and the Birdie song.
Looking back, my choice of music in the 1980’s were artists like Alison Moyet, The Flying Pickets, Wilson Phillips and Culture Club and I did get quite excited when I saw that, for the first time in over 15 years, the original line-up of Culture Club are reforming.
I used to love Boy George and his wacky style and was disappointed I didn’t get to see him at Camp Bestival, but he was playing after 1am and I was fast asleep by that time of the evening. I am not sure his current style of music is really me either!
I would love to get hold of some Culture Club Tickets as joining them at the O2 is special guest Alison Moyet and I can just imagine boogying on down to all the old music I used to enjoy as a teen.
And as for hubby’s random choice of music………I actually quite like it (just don’t tell him I said that)!
Ahhhh, 80’s music is THE BEST!
And I love your costumes in the pic. Looking fabulous, Mrs. G 🙂
