There is something about the Red Arrows that gets me really excited – I am like a big kid!
Every year we watch them at Bournemouth Air Festival and we often see them flying in and out of Bournemouth Airport when they are displaying at other local events, but we have never seen them perform other than at Bournemouth.
The D-Day celebrations were in the news last week and hubby spotted that they were due to display over Lymington on Saturday 7th June. As he was day off, we bundled the kids in the car and headed through the New Forest. I have to admit that Callan and Kian were less than enthusiastic about coming along at first.
Lymington is a beautiful town at the centre of the New Forest and is filled with gorgeous boutiques and I looked wistfully in the windows as we walked past. The kids spotted the Gold Post Box which was dedicated to Ben Ainslie thanks to his links with the town and Olympic success in 2012.
Isaac had designs on a giant ice cream, but as it was fast approaching dinner time we decided to purchase some chips and sat on the harbour wall watching the boats come and go.
We watched as a Spitfire flew overhead and then bang on 5pm, the Red Arrows roared in over our heads.
It was very different watching them here. Not only were they over land for much of the display, but there was no commentary. I was really impressed by how much the boys remembered from past displays and they were naming all their moves and shapes…….despite the initial grumbles I think they enjoyed it as much as the little ones!
We cannot wait to see them again in Lyme Regis on 24th July!

I love the red arrows. I live pretty close to their base so we are quiet often treated to a little display. Looks like a lovely day!
They came over our house at around 9am that Sunday. We were quite lucky.
I remember the red arrows regularly flying over our farm house when I was a child, as it was part of their training path. What a lovely day x
