With around 13 weeks of holiday every year, it can feel difficult to entertain your children for the whole time. However, holidays can be an enriching opportunity for bonding with your children and exposing them to brand new experiences.
Here are four tried and tested ways to keep your children entertained during the school holidays, no matter what age.
- Enrol them in a Club
Enrolling your children in a club relating to any hobbies they have is an easy way to keep them amused.
Whether they enjoy sports, gaming, or social activities, enrolling your children in a club can help them harness their social skills, build confidence, and forge lasting friendships.
You can use the government’s search tool to look for holiday clubs in your area.
- Organise A Sleepover
Every child loves a sleepover, and school holidays are the perfect time to organise one, as there are no school days to have to work around sleep deprivation!
If bed space is an issue, you could contact bed specialists like Archers Sleep Centre to purchase a children’s guest bed.
These beds are constructed with a second bed folded under the main bed frame to allow for a fold-up bed when your children host a sleepover, and means you can easily and safely store the extra mattress when it’s not in use.
During the sleepover, you can arrange games and activities like watching movies with popcorn, doing makeovers, or some party games like pin the tail on the donkey.
- Do Some Baking/Cooking
Teaching your children baking and cooking skills is an essential part of growing up, so why not make it into a fun holiday activity?
Both baking and cooking give you a great opportunity to teach your children basic safety skills in the kitchen, knife skills (depending on their age), expand their palates, and introduce them to new flavours.
You could even learn a brand new skill together like making pasta or pizza bases from scratch. Depending on your preferred method of learning, you might want to follow a YouTube tutorial.
If that’s the case, and you find yourself wanting to keep hold of the recipe, you can use a recipe journal from stationers like Papier to record your memorable recipes with your little ones.
- Organise a Sports Day
During the warmer holidays, you can organise a sports day in the hot weather. Hold it in your local park and invite friends, or even in your garden, with some refreshing drinks and snacks for the parents!
You can hard-boil eggs and hold an egg race, use old scarves for a three-legged race, or a relay race with household objects for batons. Make sure to have plenty of water available for energetic children, and a first aid kit in case there’s scrapes or tumbles!
