With the kids at cub / scout camps this week, I would love to say I have had a week of relaxation and although I did get a couple of moments, both my husband and I had to work.
We were also on countdown to Camp Bestival and were both feeling a little anxious about it before we arrived, but once we were there, we soon relaxed and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Monday 26th July
It feels very strange not having the kids at home, so I spent the day catching up on housework. When my husband got home from work, we headed to Nando’s for dinner. I love their Peri Peri Fries!!
After dinner, we made the most of being childfree and headed to Poole harbour to watch the sunset.
Sadly the clouds rolled in just at the wrong time. We heard a rumble of two of thunder in the distance and when we got home, we realised we had missed quite a big storm over our village – typical.
Tuesday 27th July
A day that has been a long time coming – I finally managed to get an appointment to get my hair coloured as my hairdresser has been so busy since lockdown ended.
It was actually a double whammy of a day, as in the evening I also enjoyed a pedicure. I could really adapt to being a lady if leisure!!
Wednesday 28th July
My lady if leisure phase is well and truly over and it was back to work with a bump. In the evening I was invited to the opening of a new restaurant in Bournemouth, called Slim Chickens.
We had not heard of Slim Chickens before, but the food is amazing and comes with a choice of 15 different dips. I opted for mango habanero and it was delicious.
In the evening, parents were invited to the cubs / scouts singing around the Camp Fire and barbecue. It was lovely to see how much fun the kids were having and join in with the silly songs. I did also get requests for some extra changes of clothes as they had all got wet and muddy.
Thursday 29th July
Another work day and as I left for home I got a phone call to say that Sebby wasn’t well, so headed to collect him.
It was his first time away from home for more than one night and I thought seeing me the night before was playing on his mind, but it was obvious he wan’t well and he was promptly sick when he got home.
I didn’t get any photo’s today, but did get a spiderman one of Isaac sent through from camp.
Friday 30th July
Home from camp day!
I was working, but my husband was day off, so took Sebby (who was feeling much better), back to collect his badges and pick Isaac and Eliza up.
If you have ever had a child got to cub / scout camp for a week, you will know how much washing they come home with……..now multiply it by three.
Saturday 31st July
From one camp to another and we were off to Camp Bestival. I was a little hesitant at first, but everyone had to provide proof of vaccination or a lateral flow test and it is mostly outside, so we braved it.
It was brilliant to be back at our favourite festival and the kids kicked it all off with rocking out to Dick n Dom. It wasn’t quite the same as some of the acts had to pull out because of travel restrictions / positive COVID tests, but there was still plenty to see and do.
We also noticed that people were a lot more respectful than in previous years, keeping their distance in any queues.
Sunday 1st August
My husband joined us at Camp Bestival, as he had to work due to staff isolating in his shop and we started off with Sam Sam the Bubble Man.
We spend more of the day exploring the different areas of the festival, although did head to the main Castle stage to watch Andy and the Odd Socks, The Wurzels and London Garage Orchestra. We are never going to sing Ruby, by the Kaiser Chiefs, the same again – Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby – Oo Arr, Oo Arr, Oo Arr.
One of the kids favourite activities of the weekend was the axe throwing.
We stayed right until the end for the Fireworks and had an amazing weekend of fun and seeing friends we hadn’t seen for almost two years.
How was your week?
Axe throwing for children? What’s unusual. I’ve been with my husband twice at axe throwing, but it is an adult-only location, the minimum age is 18 (I think, we are a bit older than that :)) ). I see the appeal, as we were laughing if we should get some axes and practice in the garden… although the idea of the neighbours calling the police put us off trying it.

Glad the kids enjoyed their week at cub/scout camp and that Sebby is feeling better again now. I can imagine it felt very quiet without them! Lovely to get your hair done and enjoy a pedicure. I can’t wait for Zach to start Beavers next year so we get involved with all the Scout activities again! It’s been a year since I got my hair cut and I’ve finally got an appointment! (last one cancelled as I had to self isolate) #project365
We love Andy and the Odd Socks. They are coming to our town next year but we are booked to go away! It sounds like a fun week of camps. It must be so weird/nice having all of the kids away at the same time #365
