With this awful weather hanging around it has been more and more difficult to get out and about and I have been struggling to find activities to keep the children amused.
I was sent the Interplay Craft Pirate Party to review.
The kids were so excited when we got this as they love Pirates. Inside the box are crafts to do as well as party games to play.
The craft activities inside are:
- Paint your own Treasure Chest
- Make your own Pirate Hat
- Make your own Eye-Patch
We made the Treasure Chests First to give them enough time to dry. The box suggests a minimum of 15 minutes, but ours took about an hour – mainly because the coats were so thick.
The Treasure Chests were made of a sturdy plastic with imprints of a Skull & Crossbones on them and wood detailing on them making them authentic. Ellie and Isaac concentrated very hard on keeping the painting within the lines but Eliza and Connor just took great delight in putting as much paint on them as possible, which is why they took so long to dry!
Once they had finished their masterpieces we cleaned the tables and set about making our hats and eye-patches.
The hats and eye patches were easy to make. Simply peel off the backing paper on the skull and crossbones and stick onto the hat. Eliza chose to stick the crossbones over the skull but was very pleased with her hat. You then thread the ends of the headband into the slots on each side of the hat, which had different sizes so will fit a good age range of children.
The eye patches were a little tricky for the younger members of the party, but you simply thread the stretchy cord through the holes in the eye patch and tie behind the head.
We then set about modelling our masterpieces to see who could do the best Pirate impression.
I think Daddy won with the best scary Pirate!
Next it was game time. We played Peg Leg Pirate first to see who could stand on one foot the longest. This mainly involved lots of wobbling and giggling.
The favourite game was Treasure Hunt – the set came with Gold Doubloons so I set about hiding them around the house for the kids to find and put in their treasure chests.
Finally there was Treasure Chest Toss which involved trying to throw sweets into their treasure chests. I think this game would work better with older kids, but we all had fun trying.
There are several other game suggestions in the box, plenty to keep little Pirates occupied for a couple of hours!
