I am not going to lie, housework is my least favourite of jobs, but one that has to be done, especially with lots of children in and out the house.
I have to admit I swear by my Dyson vacuum cleaners and I currently own not one, but two – the Dyson V8 Animal, a handheld, cordless vacuum which is great for spills and cleaning the car and my more heavy-duty Dyson DC41.
Last month, Vorwerk contacted me to see whether I’d like to put the Kobold VK200 Cleaning System to the test and having seen one in action too many years ago to mention, I jumped at the chance.
Unlike a traditional vacuum cleaner where you pop to your local electrical store or order online, the Vorwerk Kobold is brought to your home for a demonstration. There is absolutely NO pressure to buy, although the amount of kit it comes with makes it extremely tempting from the word go.
Of course, I vacuumed downstairs before the demonstrator, Peter, entered my house but was suitably horrified when he put a test bag in the Kobold to see what came out of my rug – it wasn’t pretty!
The Benefits of using a Vorwerk Kobold VK200
It’s a Corded Vacuum Cleaner
Don’t get me wrong, I love my cordless vacuum cleaner, but with the best will in the world, the charge does not last for an intensive cleaning session. The Vorwerk Kobold comes with 10m of cable, which meant I didn’t have to keep unplugging and moving the cable to reach all areas of the house
Lightweight, manoeuvrable and easy to use
The Kobold is a lightweight vacuum cleaner, with a swivel and twist head which makes it easy to get in between furniture, underneath sofas, beds and sideboards. Coupled with the telescopic handle, which you can adjust so it suits your height, it allows you to complete your cleaning task with a back-friendly posture.
It is super simple to change attachments too, by simply pressing the green button.
Automatic floor detection
I have hard flooring downstairs, with a couple of rugs and carpet on the hall stairs and landing. The Ultrasonic Sensors detects all floor types and automatically adjusts to the correct performance power to the floor setting, which you can audibly hear as you are vacuuming. In fact Eliza’s carpet is different to the boys and I could even hear it adjusting to the different thickness.
Built to last
Vorwerk vacuum cleaners are designed to last you 20+ years, but like anything, times change and new technology and accessories are invented. This doesn’t mean you need a new vacuum though, they design all their accessories etc to be backward compatible with their older models, so you simply buy the accessory to need.
Uses a Filter Bag
It is fashionable to have see-through dust collector bin on modern vacuums, but Vorwerk use a traditional filter bag to ensure that your vacuum cleaner has a constant suction level and cleans your home perfectly. It will also allow 99% of allergy-inducing particles to be captured. It also contains an integrated active odour pearls to neutralise bad odours while vacuuming.
An added bonus of this is that you don’t get covered in dust when emptying it on a breezy day and the display on the main body of the vacuum indicates when the bag is starting to fill up and when you need to replace with a new one.
Accessories
As with most vacuum cleaners, the Kobold comes with all the accessories you would expect, plus many more to make it a comprehensive cleaning system, capable of tackling everything you could ever wish it to do:
Kobold SP530 DuoClean
My favourite accessory by far, this simultaneously mops and vacuums hard floors at the same time, cutting in half the time you spend cleaning hard floors such as parquet, laminate, tiles, and stone.
Kobold VF200 Carpet Freshener
My second favourite accessory, this dry cleaning vacuum head used in conjunction with Kobosan ensures that your carpets and rugs stay beautiful for longer with impressive and hygienic in-depth cleaning that leaves them smelling clean and fresh.
Kobold MP440 Dry Cleaning Mattress Attachment & MR440 Deep Cleaning Mattress Attachment
A must have for all mattresses and plays an enormously important role for healthy, restful sleep. I used their Lavenia product which you shake over the entire mattress. You work it into the mattress with the Dry Cleaning attachment and leave for half an hour before vacuuming off. This easily removes dust, bacteria, mite faeces and mould spores from the mattress and leaves it smelling clean and fresh.
Kobold PB440 Electric Upholstery Brush
The Kobold PB440 Electric Upholstery Brush provides a thorough but gentle clean that preserves the delicate fabric of your upholstered furniture to keep it looking fab. .
Hoses and nozzles – A full range of hoses, nozzles, and brushes, all available to purchase individually or as a set depending on your needs.
Disadvantages of the Vorwerk Kobold VK200
Initial Outlay
I am not going to lie, at £749 it’s an expensive bit of kit but it will save you money in the long run as it won’t need replacing every 5 years
Accessories
Accessories cost extra and if you get them all (and you will want them all), finding somewhere to store them is an issue, especially if you have a small flat or house.
The Kobold VK200 Upright Vacuum Cleaner costs from £749 and offers outstanding cleaning results with low energy consumption, regardless of whether you are cleaning carpets, parquet or tiles. Prices go up depending on which accessories you wish to purchase, so you can build your collection as you can afford them.
Disclaimer: I was provided with a Vorwerk VK200 to borrow and test, all thoughts and opinions are my own
I hate housework to! Any gadget that makes it easier is a winner thanks for the info!
This looks like an amazing piece of cleaning equipment – I love that is has an automatic floor type detector how handy is that!
Now this sounds like a great gadget I have to admit I am all for something that is light weight as I can’t deal with anything heavy. I definitely need to look into this a bit more as our hovver at the moment is going a bit crazy.
This looks great! We need a new hoover at the moment so will have to check this one out instore.
Dyson does have an excellent reputation! I think my next vacuum will be a Dyson because I bought a lesser brand and it didn’t last 10 years which was surprising. Anyone I know who has a Dyson has been happy with the brand.
An idea you might want to embrace is blasting your favourite music whilst cleaning. Turn it into a dance event. That’s how I get through it 🙂
Ohh an attachment that vacuums and mops at the same time, that is super tempting and would make light work of my downstairs. Mich x
Sounds like my kind of vacuum cleaner! It’s so easy to use and it’s lightweight as well. I like that it uses a filter bag. The features are simply the best.
I hate cleaning as well so I know how you feel, this vacuum sounds great x
We have a Vorwerk handheld that’s a staple in my household, so I’d love to try this too!
This looks like a fab gadget to have around the house. I hate housework too but I just get on with it.
My mum would literally ADORE this! Especially since she hoovers the house 4 times a week! I should probably let her know about this!

Oh wow that looks fab! The automatic detector is so useful!
This sounds great and would save my mummy’s back. Anything that’s lightweight and easy to use is good for us!
I like the look of this, and we need a new one too. think this may have to go on the shopping list 🙂 x
While the price tag is high for an initial layout, as you said it doesn’t need replacing every few years (less than 5 in our house thanks to a dog) so it works out economical in the long run. It sounds like a really good vacuum too. I remember replacing the filter bags in my mums vacuum years ago!
I know this sounds silly but floor detection is as important as suction power. I hate having to changing the settings every time I move from the bedroom to the kitchen to the bathroom. This seems like a must have
Looks like a fab vacuum cleaner, I can’t resist a household gadget!
Gosh that isn’t cheap! I like that it detects the type of flirting though and automatically changes
It sounds like it ticks a lot of boxes. Hoovering and mopping at the same time sounds fantastic.
This looks amazing. I am not a housework fan either but would love one of these….our vacuum cleaner has just stopped too…. 🙂
Ooooh serious vacuum envy! I have a Henry and also agree that bagged and corded is best 🙂 I like the sound of the mattress attachment for the Vorwek though.
Perfect for a good Spring clean! x
This looks like an absolute God-send to have in the house. It’s great that it can hoover up and spillages too.
there is actually two things my home is in need of this moment in time and it is a carpet cleaner and vacuum so i would have loved to give this a try
Oh this sounds like a great bit of kit, I love that it does so much, so many different places and ticks off all the jobs in one. Great cover as well
I’ve not heard of this brand of hoover before, but it sounds like it’s a great model and has a lot of plus points. When I’m next in the market for a new hoover, I’d definitely consider it x
