Gin-lovers of the world rejoice as World Gin Day is back,Β on Saturday 10 June 2017!!
World Gin Day is a global celebration of all things gin and follows a simple idea: get people together all around the world with a legitimate excuse to drink some gin, whether itβs in a cocktail, G&T or neat – well that sounds good to me!!
Last year 31Dover sent me the most delicious Grapefruit Gin to try, one of 51 different types of gin they stock on their website.
Did you know that gin is good for you?
Juniper berries are good for you. In fact, millions of people take supplements daily that contain extract of juniper. There are many things that juniper is good for, including battling infections, helping you to deal with a bad cough and tackling lung congestion. Gin has also been shown to help people who have arthritis, as well as containing antioxidants, reducing the impact of wrinkles.
Gin is also one of the least calorie heavy drinks out there, and it is great for your digestive system too, so bloating isn’t going to happen.
31Dover know that I like a nice glass of G&T so sent me a gin with a difference to try: Masons Lavender Edition.
Masons Lavender Gin is a variant on the famous Masons Yorkshire gin, toning down the savoury profile in favour of a more fragrant offering.
The scent of dry lavender are evident first and then open to the distinctive Masons aroma of fennel, which is more subtle and softened by the floral lavender. Whilst an obvious component, the lavender complements, rather than overpowers the gin, with a hit of anise on the finish balancing sweetness with a little spice of the pine and juniper in the base spirit.
I tweeted about trying this gin which works well with tonic and was advised to try it with a glass of Prosecco for a refreshing summer drink.
It gave the Prosecco a floral twist but I must admit I prefer the gin with a simple tonic.
This gin is the perfect accompaniment for summer barbeques and I am looking forward to testing it out in a cocktail very soon.
How do you drink your gin?
I don’t think I’ve ever tried Gin (mainly due to being either pregnant or breastfeeding for the past three years), but I know a few family members love it. It’s become quite the drink to enjoy!
I don’t drink gin after having a bad experience in my teens, the smell puts me off. May be it is time for me to give it a go again as this sounds lovely x
I do love a G&T and have never tried lavender gin before sounds lovely and fragrant I’ll be looking out for this!
I had no idea there was such a thing as world Gin day. I must admit that I am not a fan of gin x
My mummy is making sure that she earmarks this Saturday for some time to enjoy a gin! Bombay sapphire is just around the corner from us, so she’s going to try and visit there π
They do blogger events and I need to go to the next one π
I am not a big fan of gin but I really love the idea to mix it with Prosecco. It should be a very refreshing drink.
Sounds great. I have never tried Gin before. I keep meaning to try it when I am out to see what it tastes like so I know whether or not to treat myself to a bottle π
I am not a Gin fan by any means, but I have freinds that are and actually attending a gin party on the weekend, so I can bring one of the bottle brands above and act like I know what I am talking about lol!
I’ve only ever drank gin once in my life – aged 15 at a new years eve party where I drank an entire bottle and thought I was going to die! I’ve never had it since! Maybe I should try it!
You mean there is a Lavender Gin?! I am now thinking of nothing else!! Elinor x
Can you believe I’m not sure if I’ve ever actually tried gin! Maybe once as part of a cocktail but I usually stick to vodka based ones or have wine (occasionally a soft drink π )
I am not a gin drinker but many members of my extended family are. They love drinking gins a lot.
I’ve only had a gin a handful of times. I’m not much of a fan nowadays x
I’m afraid to say, I am not a Gin drinker. I kind of think I’m missing something as so many people love it!
