If you’re seeking a fantastic family break looking at trains to Cardiff might be well worth doing as there’s a whole host of great things to see and do. The Welsh capital is a great place to spend a weekend, or even a little longer. While you’re there why not check out some of the following attractions?
Techniquest
Get hands on with science at Techniquest, the longest established science centre in the UK. There’s loads to see at the site and regular special events, so it’s well worth keeping an eye on the calendar to find out what’s on. You’ll find Techniquest in Cardiff Bay, which those with train tickets to Cardiff will find is conveniently located near Cardiff Bay railway station.
Castell Coch
Head a little out of the city centre and you’ll find Castell Coch, a stunning 19th century gothic revival castle constructed on the site of a 13th century structure. It’s well worth having a look inside the fairytale castle and taking the opportunity to take some scenic snaps with your loved ones. Don’t forget to stop by Cardiff Castle too, which you’ll find right in the heart of the city.
National Museum
Natural history, art, geology and archaeology are all covered at the National Museum, so if you’ve a curious mind it’s the place to go. Be sure to check out the Marine gallery to see the skeleton of a humpback whale and much more! Even better news is that admission is free, so there’s little excuse for not popping along when you’re in town.
Bute Park
Cardiff is blessed with 130 acres of green space at Bute Park, which once formed part of the grounds of Cardiff Castle. The area was landscaped in the 19th century so you can be sure of some great scenery. If the weather’s good it’s a great place to enjoy a picnic but even if it’s not, wrap up warm and take a stroll alongside the River Taff. A series of historical artefacts were recently found in the park so you never know what you might discover!
The Red Dragon Centre
If it’s entertainment you’re after the Red Dragon Centre is the place to get it. Among the things you’ll find inside are a bowling alley and a cinema, as well as a selection of places to eat and drink, so you needn’t leave with your tummy rumbling.
