Monkey around at Go Ape

If you have older children, finding Days out to interest them can be challenging, but I think I have found the perfect family activity to get you all outdoors and having fun – Go Ape
Have you ever fancied climbing through the trees, swinging like Tarzan and whizzing down zip lines?  Then this is for you.  Not only is it great fun, but it is good exercise too!

Callan on the practise rope (it does get much higher)

Callan and his friends took part for his 13th birthday and despite one being terrified of heights, they all had a fantastic time.  Sadly I didn’t join in this time as I was pregnant but I have done it before as a team building exercise.

Swinging onto the rope net

Go Ape tree top adventures uses a unique Go Ape recipe; Breathtaking scenery; smattering of tree-top wires, crossings & wind-in-your-face zip wires; finished off with a dose of people in search of their inner Tarzan.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

They kit people out, give them a safety briefing and training and let them out into the forest canopy, free to swing in the trees. Instructors are always on hand and you definitely need a good dose of courage once you get high in those trees, which is why its good to go as a group for moral support and a lot of cajoling!

Go Ape - Moors Valley
The minimum age to take part is 10 years and you have to be at least 1.4m (4ft 7″).  Although some courses like the one at Moors Valley offer a Tree Top Junior Adventure for the over 4’s, providing they are over 1m tall.  My 4 year old isn’t quite tall enough yet, but we are hoping for a growth spurt!  Under 18’s must also be supervised by an adult!

  2. I would love to take my 6 year old son on a tree top adventure, I think he might just like swinning through the trees. Just might have to overcome my not so happy fear of heights though!!

  3. I would like to take my daughter. A few years ago I took her to a similar thing in France, but the only trainers she had with her didn’t have much grip. Sadly she was slipping on the wood as was it raining and the staff insisted she stop.
