Project 365 2023 – Week 21

June………..how on earth are we in June already?

Thankfully, it is also half term and a much needed break from work and school and we have made the most of the lovely weather with lots of lovely local days out.

Sunday 28th May

Spent the first day of our week off at home, catching up with housework whilst listening to Radio One’s Big Weekend in Dundee. We keep hoping it will come to Bournemouth one year, but by the time it does, we will probably be too old.

Monday 29th May

Another bank holiday!!

We braved the crowds and headed over to Christchurch Food Festival, which was full of stalls selling delicious food and drink. We treated the kids to some crepes and churro’s as we watched our favourite sheep show, which we normally see at Dorset County Fest.

Tuesday 30th May

Eliza has grown out of her old bike, but her Aunt had an old one in her garage that wasn’t being used, so we took it to a friend to repair and make sure it was safe to use.

We collected it today and she was very happy to be on two wheels again. Just need to get Sebby riding now!

Isaac went to the beach with his friends, so Lilah came with me to pick him up. I got there a little early – any excuse for an ice cream!

Wednesday 31st May

I have been looking for inexpensive days out for the half term and one of the best local ones was kids go for £1 at Abbotsbury Swannery.

We haven’t visited for a few years and as well as the newly hatched Cygnets, there is now a Go-Kart track and willow maze for the kids to enjoy.

It was a lovely day out and we finished the day with another ice cream on Weymouth Beach – how impressive is this sculpture.

Thursday 1st June

One of the kids favourite days out is a trip on the Sandbanks Ferry over to Swanage to play the arcades.

We took Nanny with us and came away with an impressive haul of over 6,000 tickets. It didn’t buy much, but it was a couple of hours fun for the kids.

We finished the day off with a chippy tea on the seafront.

Friday 2nd June

After two days out, we caught up with jobs in the house, although I did venture out with the boys to get their hair cut.

Isaac is at the age where he wants a certain style he has seen online, so the barber took the time to teach him how to get the desired effect.

Saturday 3rd June

Another free local day out is Fort Nelson, in Portsmouth and the kids love exploring the restored Victorian Fort, complete with the armoury museum and tunnels.

We didn’t realise before we went, but they currently have their Standing with Giants art installation tribute, honouring those who lost their lives in the Falklands Conflict.

Silhouetted figures of the 258 who died in Falklands War are standing on the Parade Ground and ramparts until 9 July and it was very poignant.

  1. I don’t know why but up until now I didn’t realise that Radio One’s Big Weekend changes location every year. I’ve just Googled it and saw it was just up the road from us just before we moved here. Hmmf.
It looks like you have had a great week with lots of fun! x

  2. The statues look like it would be very poignant to experience. Sounds like you’ve done some nice things over the holidays. Much more than we did, which was basically zero!

  3. Sounds like you had a nice day at the food festival. Eliza looks very happy on her new bike. That sand sculpture is amazing. Sounds like you had some lovely days out in half-term. We visited Fort Nelson a few years ago and it was interesting. The Standing with Giants installation looks very poignant. #project365
