Tiny Kitchen? 6 Ways to Max Out Your Storage Space

Looking for a few small kitchen storage solutions for your tiny kitchen? Of course, in a perfect world, we would all be cooking in roomy kitchens with large pantries and sprawling islands.

Our post will save you hours sifting through countless kitchen storage ideas so you can hone in on small kitchen organization ideas that are applicable to your space. Truth be told, most kitchens are never quite big enough – you could always work with a bit more floor space and an extra cupboard.

Or maybe you could do with just removing the old layout and figuring out how to design a small kitchen to start afresh. But even the smallest kitchen can be made an agreeable space to cook in with a little bit of vision. From shelves to kitchen cabinets and jars, there’s a size, shape, and style for every kitchen out there, whether you’re on a budget or you’ve got the cash to splurge. Just read on.

Streamline Kitchen With Simple Wall Units

Is there an empty wall in your tiny kitchen? Not anymore. If you don’t feel like spending time putting up separate shelves, go for storage cubes that are super easy to put up and use fewer nails, too – a big plus if you plan to rent.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Level the storage cube:  Place the cube where you want it to fit on the wall and use a spirit level; make sure it’s straight.
  • Find wall studs to ensure a more secure attachment. Ensure you have more than two screws on a stud.
  • Drill holes: Not an expert? You can always ask someone to hold the cube in place as you drill the holes through it and into the wall. Ensure the holes measure at least one inch within each of the cube’s four corners.
  • Use the right screws: Secure the cubes with wood screws that have a length double that of the cube’s wood thickness.
  • Mask the screws: Apply wood putty harmonizing your cube’s interior color to cover the screw heads. Once it has dried out, smooth it by sanding and painting over if necessary.

Use Your Windowsill for Storage

Routinely a great deal of time is spent on the kitchen countertops, the kitchen cabinets, the sink areas, and we end up ignoring the kitchen window sill. More often than not, a kitchen window sill is left messy and, at times, dirty. But it should not be, especially if you’re trying to max out your kitchen storage space. If not a pot garden for your edible plants, the windowsill can quickly become a handy storage space by adding shelves at the sides or under it.

You can always add extra drawers to put in your what-to-do lists or recipe books. On top of the drawer, you can place a flower pot to add some taste to it.

Small homes and apartments offer plenty of charm, but they tend to be missing when it comes to kitchen space. Yet, you seem to have tons of small kitchen ideas that improve storage and efficiency. By being creative about how to make the most of your small kitchen floor plan and employing whatever countertop and wall real estate you have, you can make the tiniest of kitchen your relish cooking – and hanging out – in.

A big part of a kitchen remodel project is based on aesthetics. You want your tiny kitchen to function well and look beautiful. If you’re worried that a wall of solid cabinets won’t be to your liking, installing glass front cabinet doors into your layout might be the perfect compromise.

Glass-front cabinets not only create a stylish look but also provide storage space that serves as a display for wine glasses, special occasion dishes, or other items you’d like to display. Wireless neon lights can be installed to really make the display pop!

Make Your Shelves Work Harder

Kitchen shelves are an effective way to open up your kitchen while gaining extra storage space, making them a massively common option in the modern kitchen.

However, opting for open shelves instead of sealed cabinets makes it more difficult to simply stash dishes and other supplies out of sight. But now that you’ve realized that shelving in a small kitchen is a must, they are practical and bring texture and color into a space where there might not be room for adding, say, décor or prints.

Your shelves might work harder if you add in shelf inserts that subtly double the room and add in rails underneath for hanging utensils.

Create Kitchen Storage in Nearby Room

No one ever has enough counter space or kitchen storage. Literally, no one. Therefore, if your kitchen is relegated to, say, creating an extra storage space in a nearby room could help you figure out how to make everything work.

If there’s little to no space in your tiny kitchen to create the storage you need, consider using a closet or a nook in a nearby room. A lower niche can be used to store kitchen tools you rarely use or non-perishable pantry items. A bright-colored curtain can keep your store out of sight and look fabulous at the same time.

Organize By Usefulness

As a rule of thumb, place items that you often use on the lowest shelves ( bowls and dishes, olive oil, glasses, and more) and items you seldom use on the highest shelves.

Just remember to group the same with the same: place at least a few cups in a row rather than changing dishes all over the place. It’s a logical arrangement that goes a long way when it comes to open shelves, and it will help your tools within reach and look great.
