Project 365 2021 – Week Thirty Eight

With the excitement of her residential well and truly over, the hunt for the perfect secondary school has started for Eliza and our first couple of open days.

My car has been giving me trouble this week, needing an AA call out and three new tyres. Fingers crossed it passes its MOT next week as I cannot afford any more issues.

I have also been poorly this week with a bad cold and cough. Thankfully not COVID related, but it has left me feeling wiped out.

Here is our week:

Sunday 19th September

Over the summer I promised the kids I would take them to the fair, but we never quite made it. Thankfully I spotted it setting up close to where I work, so I took the kids for a surprise visit.

Unfortunately, it was only half the fair we had seen over the summer, but thankfully the kids got to do most of the rides they wanted to try.

Some slightly calmer than others!

Monday 20th September

The weather has been glorious, it doesn’t feel like the beginning of Autumn.

We took Lilah for a walk around the Sang whilst the kids were at school. She has a slight obsession with picking up stones, so enjoyed throwing them into the river to make a splash.

Tuesday 21st September

My husband and I were actually day off together, so we made the most of our few hours of peace. Our first stop was the Flamingo Cafe for breakfast.

My pancakes were amazing, but my husband’s cooked breakfast was apparently the best he has ever had.

Because the weather was so glorious, we decided to head to the beach for a walk.

Wednesday 22nd September

Back to work for me and a swimming day for Sebby. My car didn’t feel right driving home and I discovered I had a puncture in a rear tyre.

We tried re-inflating it but you could hear the air coming straight back out, so I put a call out to a mobile tyre fitter who promised they would be out first thing.

Thursday 23rd September

Thursday was a BAD day for me. My tyre could not be repaired and on inspecting my car, I discovered the technician informed me that I needed three replaced and the fourth was starting to deteriorate. It’s my MOT this weekend, so I had to replace them.

I then broke down when picking Isaac up from school – not my day at all!!

Thankfully it was a blip and I managed to get Eliza to her secondary school open day in the evening. She loved it so much, we stayed until the very end.

It is the same school that Isaac is at, but they have changed the catchment, so fingers crossed she gets in.

Friday 24th September

A work day for me and a bit of a chaotic one thanks to the press. There is no fuel shortage, but the press have made a mountain out of a molehill with a few Esso garages out of fuel thanks to a driver shortage – cue panic buying at garages across the country.

All our local stores ran out by 3pm!

Saturday 25th September

Another day of panic buying. I had to take Eliza for her grammar test at 8am and got stuck in traffic queuing at a petrol station. Thankfully we made it just in time!

It is now a waiting game to see how she did, although she has already decided she wants to go to the same school as Isaac.

  1. I hope you are feeling better now.
We were hoping to go to a fair over the summer but there wasn’t any near. It looks like the kids had a great time.
    Those breakfasts look amazing.
Good luck with the secondary school for Eliza and the results of the grammar test.
All the panic buying of fuel is crazy. It makes me quite glad that I don’t drive. x

  2. The garage carnage has been a nightmare. I need to get diesel, but hopefully by Tues when I’m really low, things will be ok without queues (although helpfully our local Sainsbury’s petrol station, which has been the one place that’s always had fuel) is closing this week for refurbishments. Bad timing.

Hope Eliza’s grammar school test went ok. N knew a few people doing it. It’s so weird being at the stage of looking at schools. Hopefully Eliza gets the one she wants.

  3. Oh no! It sounds like you have had a really rough time with the car! Hope it passed its MOT okay. We went to our first secondary school last week and loved it. Hope Eliza did well and that she can get into the school she wants. Hopefully having a sibling there will help

  4. We’ve just looked through all the pictures with Eddie, as he likes reading your photo updates. Good luck with choosing the right school for Eliza, fingers crossed, you get the school of your choice! Little Lilah is such a cutie. Looks like your guys enjoyed the fair a lot. Those breakfasts look tasty. I really want some pancakes with bacon now.

  5. Glad you managed to get a trip to the fair in and it looks like the kids had a great time. Beautiful photos of Lilah from your walk. I love her little dress. Sorry to hear that Thursday was such a bad day with the problems with your car – hope they are all sorted now and that it got through the MOT ok. The petrol situation has been so frustrating. Hope Eliza did well on her grammar test and good luck with all the secondary school applications. #project365

  7. Kids just love collecting things don’t they! My two are the same we sometimes just go out with a bucket and collect ‘treasure’.

Those pancakes look awesome but so does the full English!

Looks like the kids had fun at the fair anyway!
