It’s always nice to have more light in your home, whether it’s natural or artificial. During winter when the days are shorter and the nights are darker, it can be difficult to keep your home bright. However, there are a number of things you can do to bring in lots of light and make your home look as dazzling as ever.
Use White Furniture
Consider replacing your dark wood furniture with bright white alternatives. White reflects natural light, making your room look immediately more inviting. Or you can get your paintbrush out and paint your existing furniture with a white gloss.
This goes for your doorways too. Use white internal doors to keep your entrances and exits bright. If you have dark floors, try placing a white rug across the floor. Not only will this reflect more light into the area, but it will feel great on your feet!
Clear the Window Space
If the windows are blocked, how can natural light come into the room? Move all tall and bulky furniture away from your window space, leaving it clear and open. This way, sunlight can flow into the area as soon as you open the curtains.
Add Mirrors
Not only do mirrors add some beautiful decor to your home, but they also reflect light, making your room look bigger. It’s a good idea to place your mirrors across from light sources to enhance this as much as possible.
Clean
Dirt and dust can build up in no time. Wipe down your kitchen counters, wash the floors, and remove scuff marks from the walls. Cleaning will immediately brighten your living space.
Use Brighter Bulbs
Artificial lighting makes a huge difference to the way your home looks. It’s especially important during winter to take note of your lamps and bulbs. When your bulbs give off a yellow tint, it can leave the room feeling dark and unwelcoming. Instead, swap over to some bright LED lights to maximise the brightness. Add small lamps throughout your house so every corner can be well-lit.
Paint the Walls White
Keeping a neutral, light colour for your walls is always a great idea if you’re looking to brighten up every room. Ditch the patterned wallpaper and keep your walls plain and simple to reflect as much light as possible.
Light Candles
Candles add so much character and atmosphere to your home. Choose your favourite scented option and place it on the coffee table in your living room, or the bedtime cabinet in your bedroom. They add a gorgeous glow to the room and smell incredible!
Rearrange the Furniture
Sometimes your furniture placement can be one of the main reasons why your home is not as bright as you’d like it to be. Switching up where your tall cupboards are, moving around your settees, changing your interior decor. All of these things can breathe a new life of air into your living space.
