Project 365 2021: Week Fifteen

The kids are in the final week of the school holiday’s and I am ready for them to go back now, having missed so much school already this year – at least we are not homeschooling!

COVID rate are continuing to fall to levels that they were in September, although we have a couple of hotspots here in Dorset.

Kian is still home, but has news that he can return to university lectures on campus from 17th May. It feels really far off, having missed so much of the year already, but we are making preparations to take him back at the end of this month.

Here is our week:

Sunday 11th April

Today we headed to Weymouth to explore Tout Quarry Nature Reserve and Sculpture Park.

The abandoned quarry is home to 60 hidden sculptures for you to find and the kids loved exploring the artwork, caves and rocks.

We saw all four seasons on our visit, with beautiful bright sunshine, then snow, rain and wind!

We spent a good couple of hour exploring before heading to the southernmost point of Dorset, Portland lighthouse.

It was a really lovely day out and then we enjoyed our first McDonald’s of the year on the way home.

Monday 12th April

After having a couple of weeks off, Abbey was back to work so we looked after Lilah.

We went for a walk at the local Sang and the ice cream lady was there. This is a baby ice cream – safe to say she loved it!!

On the way back, we spotted a heron wandering along the side of a pond.

Tuesday 13th April

Another day for us in Weymouth as we were invited to try out Pirate Adventure Mini Golf at the Sea Life Centre.

The kids really enjoyed it and it was the first time that Sebby really played properly – he was the only one to get a hole in one!

Included in the ticket was access to the outside areas of the Sea Life Centre, so we got to see the Penguins and Sealions.

Sadly, despite a sunny forecast, we got rained off, so we popped in to see my husband who is working in Weymouth at the moment. Lilah was obsessed with the rabbits!

Wednesday 14th April

I had a meeting at work with some of the local Community Champions and it was lovely to meet them and find out how they did the role in their stores.

In the evening, we headed to Canford Park Arena to watch David Walliam’s Billionaire Boy, which was lots of fun.

Car-Park-Party

It was a stage show with live actors, projected onto a big screen which I wasn’t sure would work, but we all really enjoyed it.

Billionaire-Boy

Thursday 15th April

A work day with a difference for me, as I paid a visit to our local food bank in Poole.

It is a really impressive operation and I learned a lot about the work they do with the local community.

I parked my car at the carpark on Poole Quay, so it was a lovely excuse to walk along the quay and look at all the new Sunseeker boats being built.

I would love a boat, would you?

Friday 16th April

Work again for me and when I got home I took Eliza to her friend’s house for a birthday barbecue.

We spotted this fun cat flap style entrance to one of the gardens and a local dog walker told us that they often decorate it for special occasions – such a lovely idea!!

Saturday 17th April

My husband and I were both off work together and had plans for a day out, but we never got out, apart from a visit to the local tip and a much needed haircut for the boys.

It did give us the opportunity to watch the Ceremonial Royal Funeral of Prince Philip. It was a beautiful occasion and I was surprised at how emotional I felt. The kids loved seeing Windsor Castle on TV as we visited last year and I was surprised by how much they remembered from the tour.

  1. I am seeing so many people go to Weymouth lately, can totally see why from your photos it looks stunning.

We will have to do a trip down.

Your photos are beautiful, love the sea one and the sculpture one. Sculpture trail sounds fun; we have one in our local town we must do it some time x

  3. What a lovely walk down the quarry, with all the sculptures. I would have loved to explore it as well. Don’t think I would want a boat, unless it has a sail. 🙂 Lilah looks so happy with her ice cream cone. They always taste better outdoors.

  4. My youngest went back to school today and I was so glad. I love her to bits but the Easter holidays seemed to last forever.
The quarry looks like a great place to explore.
Lilah does look like she loved that ice cream.
What a fun time you had playing mini golf and well done Sebby with the hole in one. Such a shame about the rain. x

  5. Love the photo through the rock circle. Those sculptures look interesting. We had a similar day with all four seasons in one! Love the photo of Portland lighthouse with the dark clouds behind it. Lilah looked like she enjoyed that ice-cream. That must have been quite interesting to visit the food bank. That cat-flap entrance in the fence made me smile. The boys look very smart with their new haircuts. #project365

  6. I will have to remember the quarry for next time we visit my SiL it looks like a lot of fun and I love a lighthouse. I really need to get the boy’s hair cut but haven’t managed to get them in until the beginning of May. Hate to think about how bad it will be by then

  7. Looks and sounds like you’ve had a lovely week, the weather has been the most bizarre but fun to guess what you’ll need to be wearing from one day to the next. Love the cat flap, it looks fun and please do tell me what is Baby Ice cream and why? Love the sculptures/art work in the quarry
