The fashion industry never stands still for long. And for mums who are busy with looking after kids, that can be a challenge. You never quite know what’s coming down the pike, what’s acceptable to wear, and what isn’t.
2021 is shaping up to be an interesting year in the world of fashion. Nobody quite knows which way the year is going to go, and the fashion calendar is decidedly empty compared to, say, 2019.
Fortunately, there are three vaccines approved for use in the UK at the time of writing, with around 2 million people receiving vaccinations, so hopefully this nightmare will be over soon and we will all be able to return to our regular lives.
And when that happens, you want to be wearing the right thing. So what’s hot this year? Check it out below.
Plaid
If you thought plaid had gone out of fashion years ago, think again. It’s making a big return this winter – everything from basic tartans to enriched buffalo plaids. Plus it’s making its way onto practically every item of clothing in your wardrobe, including your dresses, skirts, blazers and trousers.
What about socks you might ask? Umm, maybe not.
Low-Top Sneakers
Now that we’re all on lockdown and have more time on our hands, there’s been a big increase in the number of people wearing sneakers. We’re allowed out of our homes to exercise, so a lot of people are thinking more about sneakers. There’s nothing quite like starting every day with a good old jog.
The trend right now is for low-top sneakers that stop at the ankle and extend at the back. Brands like Balenciaga are jumping on the style, making shoes specifically for women.
Joggers
On the same theme, joggers look like they’ll be making an appearance in 2021 – even more so than in 2020.
The market is changing in interesting ways, though. Gone are the garish sports varieties and instead, we’re getting “dressy” bottoms that you could quite reasonably wear at a classic dinner party – if they were allowed.
Plenty of brands are getting on the bandwagon. And they’re helping mums beat back the frump and rediscover their style, even if the only people who will see you wearing them are park-dwellers.
Elongated Cardigans
Regular cardigans have fallen by the wayside. They’re not particularly flattering or warming.
Elongated cardigans, however, help you improve your style and give you extra warmth on your legs and hips to boot.
At the moment, baby yellow elongated cardigans are popular. So too are horizontally striped garments. Long cardigans are great for those of you who are still travelling into the office. You can use them to wrap up warm on your way to work, and then strip off if your boss has the heating turned up high.
Graphic Tees
Lastly, we have graphic tees – something that used to be reserved for younger people. Graphic tees give you a casual, laid-back, even if you’re a supremely busy mum. And it gives you a bit of edge. After all, who doesn’t want to relive their teenage years?
Thank you very useful article! These outfits inspired me to change my wardrobe!
