We’re all feeling the squeeze this Christmas. 2020 has left most of us trying to stretch our limited salaries and budgets as far as they’ll possibly reach. It’s not an easy situation to be in, especially with Christmas on the way. And at this stage, it’s important to spend your money wisely this year and get through the festive season without jeopardising your current financial situation or plunging yourself into debt.
By finding ways to increase your budget and your spending money, you’ll have a little more breathing room to enjoy the festive season and not worry about your finances for whatever 2021 may bring. Here we’ll explore some simple ways to boost your spending money this Christmas.
Sell, sell, sell
There’s never been a better time to sell all your scrap gold and silver. If you have old pieces of jewellery sitting in a drawer at home, an old gift you don’t want or something you no longer love then check out ways to sell my gold, now. It doesn’t matter how much or how little you have to sell, the price you receive is based on weight alone and you’ll always get the best price online. It may boost your monthly income enough so you can relax a little more this month.
Say no to those extra gifts
You want to spoil your children and those closest to you, that’s perfectly acceptable. However, it’s all those additional gifts that tend to put a drain on our Christmas budgets. You granny, your aunt, your work colleagues, teachers at school…it quickly adds up. Leaving you wondering where all your money went! This year, say no to those extra gifts and let people know well in advance that you’re not planning on making additional purchases this year. You may find that they’re also relieved as you’ve removed the obligation to buy you a gift too.
Make it all about the build-up
When you were a child, you probably weren’t aware of how free-range the turkey was or how much your parents spent on a gift. It was all about the magic and the incredible build-up of excitement. These days we’re pressured into taking our families for big festive days out and visiting an expensive Santa in his grotto for a photo. Bring back the excitement on the cheap instead, by walking or driving around the neighbourhood to look at the lights, reading Christmas books together, snuggling up watching films and baking Christmas cookies together instead!
And finally, simply cut back
Don’t be fooled into thinking you’ll ruin the magic of Christmas if you don’t buy your child the games console they mentioned. There’s no shame in cutting back on the amount you spend and being a little more modest. Focus on getting your children something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read! You’ll have plenty of ideas and they’ll be incredibly happy with whatever Father Christmas brings them this year.
