We have enjoyed a lovely half term week, having spent some time away from home and catching up with friends.
Now it seems it is back to earth with a bump, as reports are coming in that Boris is going to lock England down again as COVID cases are accelerating across the country.
If I am honest, it does feel unfair that we are being locked down again, as our rates in the South West are still low but nothing is set in stone………yet.
In happier news, this is our week………
Sunday 25th October
We were invited to review our nearest Vue cinema, but not having been to the cinema since February, we were a little unsure what to expect, but it felt really well organised.
The kids voted to watch Cats and Dogs: Paws Unite about a supervillain parrot who hatches a devious scheme to break the long-standing truce between cats and dogs. It’s not going to win any Oscars, but the kids enjoyed it nonetheless.
They segregated our seating so we weren’t sat close to anyone else and we had to wear are masks throughout. I am so used to wearing it now I forget I even have it on!!
It was Isaac’s last session with Swim Bournemouth and they made a fuss of him, praising his attitude to training. Isaac doesn’t want to leave and we are hoping that he will be able to rejoin in the future when things go back to normal.
Monday 26th October
Holiday time!!
My friend has recently moved to Glastonbury and has an annexe on the side of her house which they have decided to use as an airbnb property and we were one of the first to book.
Rose Cottage is stunning inside and out and she has made a lovely job of decorating and furnishing it. It was the perfect place to use as a base for exploring Somerset and enjoys stunning views over Glastonbury Tor, plus we got to spend time catching up too.
Tuesday 27th October
Every time we take Kian to university in Bristol, we drive past the signs to Fleet Air Arm Museum and say we must visit, so with us being just 20 minutes up the road it was our first port of call.
Like most places we have visited recently, it felt really well organised with a one-way system in place, a reduced capacity and plenty of hand sanitiser.
We were there a good three hours before heading off to explore, however, we hit or first hurdle of our short break……..all other attractions nearby had to be pre-booked and with no idea how long we would be at the museum, we hadn’t booked anything.
We ended up at Clark’s Village, an outlet shopping village in Street, only to park up and leave after 15 minutes. Every shop had queues of people outside and we just didn’t feel safe.
Luckily the kids were more than happy being back at our cottage as they got to play with their friends.
Wednesday 28th October
We headed into Bristol to see Kian, so I booked us into The Wild Place Project and their climbing activity centre, Leap of Faith.
I stayed safely on terra firma whilst the kids (and my husband) climbed and launched themselves off various apparatus over 25ft in the air.
Once they had finished climbing, we warmed up with a hot chocolate before heading off to explore the park.
One of the highlights is Bear Wood, which tells the story of our British woodland from 8000 BC to present day, with bears, wolves and wolverines.
There are lots of other animals to see too, but we were disappointed that some of the viewing and play areas were closed.
We finished our day by taking Kian out for dinner. We normally choose Nando’s, but sadly as it was half term everywhere was packed, so we ended up having a Burger King before heading home.
Thursday 29th October
My husband’s grandparents always used to holiday in Weston-Super-Mare and he was keen to visit, so we thought a trip to the seaside would be fun for the kids.
I have to admit that we were really disappointed with our visit. The weather was not great, but, with the exception of the Grand Pier, everything was shut.
Thankfully the kids loved the pier and enjoyed playing the 2p machines and winning as many tickets as possible.
When they had spent all their money, we went for a walk along the prom and found a park to play in before heading back to Glastonbury.
Friday 30th October
Time to head home via my Dad’s house on the Devon / Dorset border as it is his birthday next week. I completely failed to take any photo’s, apart from one of the appalling weather as we drove home.
Saturday 31st October
A day spent catching up on holiday washing and blog reviews whilst watching and waiting for another announcement from Boris.
How has your half term week been?
It does sound like you’ve had a good half term and a good trip to the cinema.
What a lovely place for a holiday. The cottage looks gorgeous!
That climbing frame looks like a lot of fun for the kids but I think my feet would certainly be kept on the floor. x
Nice to be able to get away. I felt the same about Weston Super Mare when we went, and that was summer. I think it’s very overrated.
just as well you went away when you did as might not happen for a long while now.
Well braved with the high wires and the climbing, I always offer to hold the jackets.
Yes having to book now is a pain and stop you being spontaneous
I am glad the cinema was well organised! The kids are super brave giving that climbing wall a go, I’d be terrified.
I’m glad you’ve been having fun over the half term. The weather hasn’t been in the best and Wales have been in lockdown for half term sadly. I am looking forward to getting out a bit more when our lockdown ends.
Sounds like you had a very busy week with lots of travelling! I love the look of the arcades on the beach and Fleet Air Museum!
Fleet Air Arm Museum is on our list to visit at some point in the future. Will have to look at you friends AirB&B for the future as that’s a part of the world we’ve not visited really #366
Oh didn’t realise you have to keep your mask on while watching the film too. Not sure I could handle having to have my mask on that long! I always dash in and out of shops so I can take it off as quick as I can!
The cottage looks lovely!
Shame about the weather and most places being closed but when I was down that way in September it was too busy for my liking so just walked Bob on the beaches and stayed away from the sea front
What a lovely break. We also found the same when we were away it was a bit of a military operation making sure everything was booked in advance. And one we didn’t always win.
Sounds like you had a fun half term. How lovely to enjoy a cinema trip together and to get away for some time in Somerset. The Fleet Air Arm Museum is a great place to visit. That climbing activity centre looks like a fun place although I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to try it out! What a shame your day in Weston-Super-Mare was so disappointing with nearly everything shut though. #project366
Glad you managed to have a lovely half term . We’ve been loving the VUE , spacious and really doing well socially distant seats . The climbing looked fab!
What a lovely time away! Glad you were able to fit it in before the new lockdown… #project366
Cool cinema and sounds like a cute fun movie. True, sometimes I forget I have a mask on too. That’s a lovely view. The trip to the museum looks so cool.
