Canada is the second-largest country in the world and boasts some of the best natural wonders, from glaciers and mountains to secluded forests and lakes.

With the expanse of the country being so large it hard to decide which location to visit first. Top of my list would be Ontario, with flights to Toronto, Canada taking around 8 hours from the UK from Heathrow or Manchester airport.

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is one of the most iconic waterfalls on the planet and is situated on the Canadian / American border, on the Niagara River which connects two of the five Great Lakes. Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

They consist of three different waterfalls: The American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls are in the USA and the largest Horseshoe Falls are in Canada.

It is the Canadian side of Niagara Falls which offer some of the most impressive views of the iconic waterfalls there are many observation points to choose from. The Skylon Tower is a revolving observation deck which allows you to have a panoramic view of all three falls, plus there is a lower observation deck where you can peer over the falls and in the summer, you can even sail beneath the falls on a boat tour but be prepared to get very wet!

Vancouver Island

We fell in love with this stunning location whilst watching the TV program See, which was filmed at the Strathcona National Park in the heart of Vancouver Island.

Vancouver Island is also home to the Johnstone Strait, a 68-mile long channel along the north east coast of Vancouver Island which is one of the most scenic places to go whale watching tour in the world.

Bay of Fundy

The Bay of Fundy is famous for having the highest tides on earth, which at low tide strand fishing boats, and have, in some places, carved the coastline into sculptured islands and rock columns.

With 160 billion tonnes of seawater gushing in and out of the bay twice a day. The power of the tides is most evident at The Hopewell Rocks. At low tide you can walk the ocean floor and look up at the cliffs and rocks.

Banff National Park

Banff National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and Canada’s most prized gem. It is located in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, west of Calgary and is most famous for its mountainous terrain, with many glaciers and ice fields, dense coniferous forest, alpine landscapes and turquoise glacial lakes.

Activities here include hiking, biking, skiing and camping in some of the world’s most breathtaking mountain scenery.

Gros Morne National Park

The views here are stunning as this huge park contains some 2,000 feet tall cliffs, soaring fjords, some of the highest waterfalls in Canada whilst also having sand beaches, rock pools and forests to explore.

Shaped by colliding continents and grinding glaciers, Gros Morne’s ancient landscape is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
