The last three months have been challenging in many ways, but one thing we have enjoyed is getting to watch lots of great TV.

We are big fans of binge watching series in a few days anyway, but we have had a real opportunity to watch more, although we still have a long list of things we want to see before everything returns to normal.

Here are some of our favourites that we have watched recently:

Netflix

White Lines

Zoe Walker leaves her quiet life in Manchester behind to investigate her brother’s disappearance in Ibiza, where she quickly heads down a decadent and dangerous path.

White Lines is so much fun to watch, has some stunning scenery and is packed full of great music (Happy Mondays, the Farm, Radiohead) and dodgy fashion from the 90’s. It is not one to watch with kids about as there is plenty of wild behaviour to witness. I just hope they bring out a soundtrack album.

Sex Education (Series 2)

The show follows the fortunes of Otis, Maeve and Eric as they navigate their school days, their parents and the challenges that come with both.

It also stars Gillian Anderson as Otis’s sex therapist mother, this is a critically acclaimed show not just for its comedy, but for the bold way it challenges important issues head on. Make sure you watch series one first!!

Hollywood

Hollywood is set in post-World War II Hollywood, about an ambitious group of aspiring actors and filmmakers will do almost anything to make their showbiz dreams come true.

I loved the Hollywood glamour, the sets and the story. Although it is a re-imagination, so not true to life despite using some famous names throughout. It is also very topical at the moment.

Tiger King

My husband and teenage son are huge fans of Tiger King and devoured the series in less than a week, when I was at work, developing some kind of weird obsession with it.

It is a bizarre, wacky and downright fascinating documentary that centres around Joe Exotic a big-cat owner in the United States who has had lions, tigers and many, many other animals in his GW Zoo, Oklahoma and his fight with animal activist Carol Baskin, whom he accused of murdering her husband.

Dead to Me

About hotheaded widow searching for the hit-and-run driver who mowed down her husband, this show moves on to grieving women who bond during therapy.

It does sound like a depressing watch, but it is a dark comedy which has plenty of laugh out loud moments, OMG scenes and an awful lot of swearing!

The Morning Show

An American drama television series starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carell which follows the lives and challenges of the hosts of breakfast TV.

There are lots of great references to topical events, as well as all the gossip from behind the scenes and although it sounds heavy, it is actually very funny and very addictive to watch!!

Defending Jacob

Defending Jacob is an American crime drama, based on the novel by William Landay which stars Chris Evans of Captain America fame.

He plays an assistant district attorney finds himself torn between his sworn duty to uphold the law and his unconditional love for his son who has been accused of murdering the school bully.

It is a great TV show that keeps you guessing all the way through, although the ending doesn’t tie the story up and you are still left questioning whether he did it or not.

See

Starring Jason Momoa (Aquaman), See is based set in a future where humankind has lost the ability to see and is forced to interact in new ways.

Baba Voss is a man who must take his family on the run after his adopted twins, Kofune and Haniwa, are born with sight and the story follows their journey to adulthood. Critics have been harsh, but we thoroughly enjoyed the series and the questions it threw up. Plus, the scenery is spectacular!!

Little Fires Everywhere

Little Fires Everywhere is an American drama based on the 2017 novel by Celeste Ng that follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives.

We are only two episodes in, but we are hooked!!
