There aren’t too many things more enjoyable than taking a family holiday. Throwing off the bowlines of the everyday, heading out on an adventure, what’s not to love? And it’s fair to say that with the lockdown beginning to take its toll, we’re all dreaming of the day when we can return to normal and start planning our next adventure. Alas, there’s one obvious downside of family trips: they can be expensive. That’s why it’s important to find ways to take holidays.
A Little Bit Each Week
If you’re randomly deciding to take a trip, and have to pay for it there and then, then there’s no getting around it: you’re going to feel the dent you’ve made in your bank account. But if you can spread the cost out over multiple months, then you’ll find things much more manageable. There are two ways you can do this. You can either put a little bit of money away into your bank account each month, or you can book your holiday with an operator that allows you to spread the cost over multiple installments. This way, you’ll barely notice the cost.
Clearing Out the Drawers
But of course, even if you’re paying in installments, you still need to have money in your bank account. And while it might not sound much in the grand scheme of things, you’ll likely notice that you have to pay a few hundred pounds, especially if money is tight. One way to get around this is to look for new sources of money that’ll help you to pad your bank account. Perhaps the most effective method is to look at clearing out the drawers in your home, and see if there are any valuables that you can sell. There are sites that allow you to sell phones that you’re not using, for instance. You could find that you’re able to afford a holiday just by selling the items that you already own, but which no longer need.
Local Adventures
There’s always a temptation to board a plane and visit another country when we’re travelling, but it is worthwhile looking at taking more local trips, which can be a lot more affordable. Camping, for example, can be super cheap, and is arguably even more fun than spending time in a traditional hotel. Give it a go, and you’ll see!
Cut Down The Time
A lot of people want to spend as much time on their holiday as they can. If you’re going to go through the process of planning and booking a trip, you may as well make it stretch for as long as possible, right? While it’s easy to see that logic, there is a problem. You’ll spend a lot of money on your trips if you’re going for two weeks rather than one. So consider taking shorter trips — even cutting down by a couple of days can lead to big savings.
