Six weeks of lockdown, it doesn’t feel that long, or does it?
Half the time I have no idea what day it is, until I have to go to work and the only reason I know then is because people ask me which lottery draw it is that day.
Sunday 19th April
We should have been in Liverpool this weekend for their Pokémon GO Safari Event. Thankfully we still got to catch lots of exclusive Pokemon and take part in raids, for the weekend so my husband went out for a walk with the kids to our local pokestops to see what they could catch whilst I worked.
Our NHS hour from 9-10am was really quiet, perhaps because NHS staff are now given priority access at any time they want to shop now. Our busiest time was just before close at 4pm.
Monday 20th April
Back to “school” after the Easter break and Sebby and Eliza both have activities set on a new app called SeeSaw.
We have found this much easier to manage as they are set work to do, rather than picking and choosing what they feel like. Once they had all finished their tasks for the day, they enjoyed a water fight in the garden.
Isaac had a phone call from his teacher to see how he was getting on. He is really studious and has been doing all his work, but got upset when he realised he had missed Google Classroom. Thankfully his teacher was really relaxed about it and he is catching up with a small piece of extra work everyday.
Tuesday 21st April
Despite working in a supermarket, our cupboards were starting to look bare so we decided we needed to do a big shop. We decided to head to our local Asda which is set on the outskirts of Poole on Holes Bay.
I braved the shop, which was lovely and quiet whilst my husband took the kids for a scoot around the pathway which runs around the bay. It made a lovely change, although it seems that a lot of other people had the same idea.
Sebby got some lovely post from his new globetrotting pen pal, Banjo Robinson. It is a subscription service, but he loved having his own post and spent ages reading his letter and looking at the map to see where we have been on our holidays.
Wednesday 22nd April
Both Eliza and Sebastian received phone calls from their teachers today. Sebby told his that he really liked the new SeeSaw app but that the maths was too easy. Once they had finished their work, we headed up onto the heath for a walk.
We have been increasing our distance slowly as Sebby struggled at first, we think because of his pneumonia in February, but all of a sudden he seems to have turned a corner and runs off and comes back without hesitation.
I wrapped all Isaac’s birthday presents before I went to work, so they were ready for the morning and we got word of our appeal to Homebase – they still won’t offer my husband furlough.
Thursday 23rd April – Isaac’s 12th Birthday
I was dreading a lockdown birthday if I am honest. I am normally a big party planner and previous years have seen us heading to Dorset Adventure Park and Avon Tyrell for adventurous birthday parties. Isaac took it all in his stride and loved his lockdown themed birthday cards.
He got given lots of clothes and the FitBit he wanted, which tracks his swimming laps. Just need to wait to get back in the pool now. Birthday activities included a pinata, silly string fights and some time in the hot tub.
We also had a cake presentation during a family Zoom chat which was lovely as his siblings all sang happy birthday to him.
It wasn’t the birthday celebrations we had planned, but it was fun nonetheless and its certainly one that we will all remember.
Friday 24th April
Back to normal routines today, Sebby’s home learning included doing a scavenger hunt, so we headed to the Sang to complete the challenge.
We struggled for something beginning with the letter “M”, which was not mud, but thankfully found some moss and then a magpie feather in the end and I did have to say no to bringing home their something heavy!
Work wise, the shop seems so much busier this week, it feels like people are relaxing their own lockdown rules.
Saturday 25th April
A very unexciting day, we have looked at the weather forecast for next week, which reads like this: “rain, rain and more rain”, so am washing all the bedding and getting it out on the washing line. We did manage a 6km bike ride around the sang and saw lots of friends enjoying the sunshine as we rode past.
How has your week been?
That is a shame you missed out on the Pokemon event. I’m glad you still managed to go out hunting for them.
The water fight looks like a lot of fun.
That was good that Isaac’s teacher gave him a ring. I’m sure he’ll catch up in no time.
It looks like you have some fantastic places to go for walks near you.
Happy birthday to Isaac. The cards are fab and it looks like a great birthday.
Isn’t it so funny how easily this seems to becoming a new norm?
Happy birthday to Isaac! I feel so sorry for all the kids having their birthdays in lockdown, but it looks like everyone had a good time. The lockdown birthday cards are brilliant.
It’s great that Sebby can walk further now. My sister tells me that my niece and nephew (7 and 5) are managing long walks now too.
I felt like people were ignoring the lockdown rules in the supermarket more yesterday too – people were definitely shopping for smaller amounts, meaning more frequent visits!
Happy Birthday to Isaac! Looks a lot of fun even if he did miss out on the Pokemon event. H forgot a piece of work too and the teacher contacted me about it – easily done I think when it is so new. H had actually done it, but forgot to submit it.
Love your photos of your outdoor walks – you’ve certainly made the most of the beautiful weather that we’ve been having this week. I’m glad that Isaac enjoyed his lockdown birthday and that everyone was able to sing happy birthday to him via Zoom. SeeSaw sounds like a good app for school work. Ours has been more organised this week which has made things a lot easier too. #project366
I wish I could have a walk in nature like that. Being stuck in central London is not nice during lockdown
I love seeing your photos of the week – you always manage to fit such a lot in even with lockdown.
Aww Happy birthday , looks like he had a great birthday despite lockdown. The water fight looks epic and how nice Isaac’s teacher gave him a call. So many lovely places to walk xx
We also had a phone call, it’s nice for them to speak to their teachers. Glad the birthday went well, happy birthday to him.
I need to start carrying my nhs badgenow shops are letting us in with no queuing, also heard over the tannoy last time I was in B&M they are doing 10 % discount for staff as well.
Happy belated birthday to Isaac
Lovely the school are phoning to see how the children are. Happy 12th birthday, the cake looks lovely, some lovely walks around you. Glad they’re getting on with their school work and a water fight sounds like a lovely way to finish the day
There’s a proper event for Pokemon Go? Cool! The water fight looks like fun. Isaac is very hard working. The bay looks beautiful. The map looks cool. I love the cards!! I’m happy Isaac had a fun birthday during lockdown. Lovely pictures
Happy Birthday Isaac. We have also done a birthday in lockdown. It wasn’t as bad as we thought and we made it fun.
We also are getting calls from the teen’s teachers, which has been so nice, to help us feel like we are in touch, and for her too. #project365
It has been a real struggle getting the kids to work again after Easter so I will have a look at the app you mention above. I hope lockdown birthdays still had a bit of magic #project366
Happy belated birthday! Glad he still managed to have a good birthday..the pinata looks fab! Love all the outdoors photos!
Such a shame they still wont offer him furlough!
Happy 12th Birthday. We have also celebrated a lock down birthday this last week and it went better than I thought it would too. So glad he had a good time. I think people are starting to relax too much if I am honest.
Happy belated birthday to Isaac. It sounds like you are making the best of lockdown . It’s a tough time for us all.
