When you become a parent, money becomes more of a worry. For the mother, even more so as you have to think about what you are going to do after your maternity leave ends. Of course, not all women choose to take the full maternity leave, but for some it is the only option. The costs of child care are only going up and a lot of the time, it is better financially for the mother to stay at home. The average cost of full time childcare in the UK is over £200 a week and that is just for one child. If a mother is earning minimum wage and working 40 hours a week, she’d be taking home just under £350 a week before tax which just about covers the childcare. This is the reason why many women now choose to be stay at home mums and find ways to make money from home.
How can I make money from home?
Without getting sucked into schemes where you buy products and sell from home, there are many ways that you can make money from home. This works well for stay at home mums, as they can look after their children at the same time and avoid having to pay for childcare. This way, all of the money that you make can be spent on whatever you want.
Paid Surveys
One great way to make money from home is through paid surveys. These don’t pay a lot per survey (they average at around 50p – £1 per survey), however the money soon adds up. By just doing a few surveys per day as they land in your inbox, you’ll soon have enough to cash out. There are a lot of different paid survey sites out there, so it’s worth doing some research into the best paid survey sites.
Selling old clothes
If you’re a mother, you’ll understand just how fast kids grow out of their clothes. Every couple of months you’ll have piles of clothes that no longer fit them. If you are looking to make a bit of extra money, then you could list the old clothes on somewhere like eBay or Facebook Marketplace. Selling them as a bundle will be more appealing than individual items too.
Set up your own shop
If you’re a bit crafty, then you could set up your own shop. Perhaps you’re into candle making or you’re a dab hand at crochet? Maybe you can paint or sew your own clothes? Whatever your craft is, you could start an online shop and sell your creations. It doesn’t take long to set up an Etsy account and if you spread the word, you can start making sales. You could also look up some online tutorials and broaden your knowledge of your craft.
Start a blog or a YouTube channel
This isn’t a way to make money overnight, but it does also give you a bit of a hobby. These days more people read blogs than they do magazines and a lot of people choose YouTube over the television. Think of a topic and start your blog or channel, be consistent in your uploads/posting schedule and spread the word using social media. If you’re lucky enough to gain a following, there may be a chance that you get paid work through it.
Affiliate marketing
Similar to the above point, affiliate marketing can make you quite a bit of money if you have a big enough following. If you’re the kind of person who likes to share where they bought their latest outfit or baby gadget from, affiliate marketing could be right for you. Affiliate marketing is simply earning a commission by promoting other people’s products. Even if it’s just a few pence here and there, it soon adds up.
