For the last few years, instead of New Years Resolutions I have given myself goals for the year.
It worked really well last year, although I didn’t go back and check them during the year, writing them down seemed to work and I achieved a 70% of them and made inroads into some that I didn’t quite do.
10 Goals for 2020
Start saying “No” and delegate more
I do a lot of volunteer work. I run the school PFA, help out at the kids swimming and generally cannot say to “no” to any requests for help, much to my husband’s frustration.
I enjoy my work with the PFA but do need to recruit more members and make sure I delegate more of the workload to the team. With swimming, I only intend to volunteer for events where my own children are taking part and not feel guilty for not helping at others.
See friends more often
This one has been only my list for the last two years and I have failed miserably.
The end of 2019 saw me calling upon one of my oldest friends for help, despite not physically seeing her for over a year. This year I want to make time and catch up with friends, even if its only for a coffee.
Replace our internal doors
Another re-entry from last year, which we started on.
We have new doors that go from our lounge to our dining room, but the 8 other doors in the house all need to be replaced.
Get a new Sofa
We have had our sofa for 10 years now and its starting to sag and become uncomfortable.
I have seen one I like in Oak Furniture Land, but need to do some serious saving to be able to afford it.
Get more exercise
I love walking and cycling and despite promising ourselves we would do more this year, we only actually ventured out a handful of times and mostly during our holidays.
It is getting easier as the kids get older, but I really need to get Sebby riding his own and not sit on the back of mine!
Be more adventurous
I made huge inroads to this in the last year and I want to build on it.
We have bought our own kayak and paddleboards this year and I would love to take them to explore more of the Jurassic Coast.
Tick more items off my 50 before 50
I first wrote my 50 places to visit before I am 50 post in 2018, but I have only ticket 11 things off and I only have 4.5 years left to do the other 39!
Quite a few are local, or UK based so I have no excuse.
Improve my blogs
Going back to work has seen some my blogging achievements slide away. I have worked hard to get my stats back up on both blogs, have bought a new URL for my travel blog after waiting 4 years for it to become available and have had arewenearlythereyet.co.uk redesigned to look more modern and responsive.
I am hoping to earn enough from the blogs this year to redesign chelseamamma and to help pay towards a cruise for next year.
Speak to a Financial Advisor
We have wanted to move house for a few years now and have been hit by redundancy or threats of redundancy and the reduction of working hours.
We really need to upsize the house, but need to know what we can realistically afford before we can begin to look seriously.
See Family More
With work, swimming and various other responsibilities it is getting harder to squeeze in visits to see family members. Callan lives in Sussex, Kian in Bristol, my dad in Devon and various other family in London and Kent who I would love to see more of. Plus we have a gorgeous new granddaughter to dote on.
Do you have any goals for 2020?
Seeing friends is certainly on my list this year. So easy to let the weeks and months go by with just the odd text here and there. This year I want and need to make more time for a social life.
Saying no is the big one for me too! I felt completely over whelmed last year with work and I really need to say no more and also hold my own when it comes to deadlines and shifting of dates! My main goal is to be happier and read more!
I want to decorate our bedroom … sounds so simple, but we’ve lived here 10 years and the children’s rooms have each been done three times and ours hasn’t. We’re always last on the list
What a lovely list of goals for 2020, last year I did the saying No and its quite liberating, suddenly lots of other people do actually come forward and help because they know you aren’t there to do it, i’d also love a new sofa, but think i’ll wait until Bree has got out of the chew everything stage!
What a lovely list of goals for this year. I am still working on my goals for this year. I have a vague idea but I want something more definite before I write them down.
Menna x
These are some great goals. I plan on saying no more this year too and also upsizing our home as its just too small for our needs now.
Your goals are great because they are achievable. I am also planning on getting a new sofa! Haha. My family also agreed that we will choose healthier meals, which means less frying. I am getting an Instant Pot and Air Fryer next month so that we can make meals with less oil/fat in it.
I can relate to a lot of these goals. New internal doors has been on my list for a couple of years too.
I love your goal lists and for me they are all attainable which is the most important when setting a goal/s. Some of my goals this year are to see more of my friends and family and to have more time for myself.
Most of these could be my list, I definitely need to start saying no more, and am currently looking at new sofas x
I think these are all such wonderful goals. I would like to get a new Sofa soon as well.
What a great list! We are all about more time with friends and more adventure! All the best this year!!
What an awesome list for you to try and reach this year. It seems like you have some amazing goals and I am sure you will manage to do them with ease!
we have similar goals! Wishing you’ll achieve them all. Thank you for sharing!
These are awesome goals to achieve throughout the year. Good luck to all of you.
It is always good to write down all your goals for sure. I hear you on the exercise that is one my list too
These are some really good goals you have for the year . Saying no is definitely one I’d like to try and not feeling guilty for saying it !
Honestly love your goals. They are realistic and attainable and it’s so much better to have goals than make resolutions.
Love this! I could definitely work on saying no more as well. It can be so difficult.
Our family goals for 2020 are to fulfil some of our family bucket list. We just packed up home ad we are currently in Bali for a few months. Who knows where next! But for sure 2020 is about enjoying my family.
We have a sofa that is also around 10 years old. I am changing it this year for sure.
I love this,, these are some obtainable goes!! I know you’re gonna slay this year!
These are all really positive and doable goals and yes to getting outside and being more adventurous as well as taking charge of your finances
